Description

Built this rig for work and play --- okay fine, I told myself it was for work but I could get by trading using a lot of cheaper alternatives. Heck I could trade using my laptop and a pair of ASUS MB169B's. Finding the perfect balance between a trading computer and a gaming monster, I ended up with what you see here. I call it by its name so that I'm reminded of its primary purpose. :)

The X34 is just a beautiful monitor! I used the 34UM58 as a previous main display but now it's standing on portrait mode with a VESA mount. I initially used a Zotac 1060 Amp Edition with the LG monitor but when I ascended into the X34 I had to get the 1080ti.

To complete this build, I used a sit-stand desk from a local retailer as well as an AK Racing gaming chair. Also using a big-*** Zowie mouse pad.

Part Reviews

CPU

What can I say? Best enthusiast grade i7 at the moment. I've pushed it to around 4.7Ghz for kicks. Not really a fan of increasing the voltage too much on this thing as I have yet to find the need to push it into the 5GHz territory.

CPU Cooler

Really eye candy, this one. You can play around with so many light settings on the CAM software --- the problem here is that the software derps every so often and it fails to recognize the Kraken. In which case, you'll have to uninstall-reinstall the CAM software. Doing so wipes your lighting settings.

Motherboard

Great solid mobo here!

Memory

Great RGB RAM sticks that don't require any additional power. Buggy software still, and it's been a month since release of the beta and there have been no updates since. If you wish to control these sticks seamlessly at this point in time one must have an ASUS Aura compatible mobo.

Video Card

Truly a beast and locally, Palit is the cheapest of the FE's available.

Monitor

Beautiful monitor. Put a dent in my wallet but man, I just stare at it to forget how much I spent for it!

Well done Perfectly executed Should be a featured build

So this is your "Money Maker"? Please tell me your not going to shake it...

When you transition from sitting to standing modes do you have to move the middle monitors, it looks like you would end up covering one with the other.

The tilt up of the Predator works pretty easily for this. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I'm not that tall so the desk doesn't have to rise by much!

Any pro tips for a student looking to trade? Any suggestions? :D

Setup yourself to succeed. Save your money to build some capital, learn strategies from the popular teachers BUT never follow buy and sell alerts. Don't try to be the next person who grows 1000 into a million. :) From there figure out the style that you're most comfortable with and paper trade it at first and THEN go live.

Thanks for the tips! Any stocks that I should start with? I only have a few grand at my disposal right now and would like to grow it a bit.

Awesome build, seriously this is some amazing stuff. Just wondering, do you always play your games in fullscreen windowed? +1

iceanddice

Full screen windowed for the most part!

videonery

Why is that?

iceanddice

Oh, so it's easy to jump to the other screens especially when the market is open. In that particular shot windows kept the taskbar, it usually isn't there haha.

How do you like your Palit card? I really liked the looks of the 1080 Gamerock Premium because of the extremely large cooler but I dont think I can get one because I live in the US :(.

iceanddice

TBH I've not much to say about it other than it's the same founders edition being sold by the other brands available, at the cheapest price point where I am. The GameRock 1080 does look pretty cool (as in cool temps and cool looking!)

What color would you suggest? Black?

iceanddice

Or white to go with the Aorus colors!

I'd definitely go white for the 24pin and GPU cables. Would look fantastic.

How is the 1080 Ti treating you? im thinking about getting the palit FE.

iceanddice
  • 7 years 6 months ago

Sold it to a friend, put it on a hybrid cooler. Still runs great for him today.

My current setup is my latest completed build. Check it out!

Lobsterareawesome

good to hear! cuz the palit FE 1080 Ti is by far the cheapest 1080 Ti one can get here in switzerland.. its like 100 bucks cheaper than the next cheapest 1080 Ti

iceanddice
  • 7 years 6 months ago

Great. Jealous you could still get your hands on one. I can't find it here anymore and I need a reference PCB 1080 ti for an upcoming build.

X52 on a 7700k? Not sure that’s overkill. The p400 is rgb, yup
