Description

i am really into computers, i mostly made this for the fun of it, but i also needed a good gaming rig.

CPU: ok, this one is great, for gaming, it should be better than the FX-6300 because of single core performance. managed a stable overclock of 4.6ghz, making it not far under the 9590's speed

Cooler: its awesome, but the fans are not PWM, but i dont really need them to be because of the generally low temps it has anyways. oh yea, its quiet too

Motherboard: HAS. ABSOLUTELY. EVERYTHING. sli, crossfire, super easy bios, little flashy light bulbs, and buttons to help out when i make a mistake

RAM: 16gb may have been a bit overkill, but it certainly is beautiful.

Storage: i use the SSD for windows and things, the HHD for pics

GPU: i think it's the best looking GPU ever.

PSU: got this as an upgrade as the old one i was currently using started to go out.

Part Reviews

CPU

no problems here, after 2/3 years it is beginning to not play some games as well as i would like it to, but its still running strong

CPU Cooler

why get liquid cooling? this thing is amazing!

holds my cpu at ~30c idle and will never really go up any more than 45c under constant load

only cons are that the fans aren't controlable, but no stars off for that because it does such a good and quiet job at cooling my CPU that i wouldnt need to anyways

its also kinda ugly, but i never see it anyways :)

Motherboard

Asus is a very solid brand.

worked perfect upon arrival and looks amazing too

love the bios, super easy, even able to manage some overclocking when i want to

Memory

i think i received a slightly faulty pair, but since i hate when people remove a star because of something that's obviously not supposed to be the case, i wont :)

for all i know i could've derped something in installation, idk

other than that they look great and work great besides having rare crashes and running at 1333 not 1866

(tried "overclocking" it to where it should be and then it wont work)

all in all, great product, these issues happen every once and awhile, impossible to avoid with any pc component

Storage

speedy! boots up windows in like 20 seconds or so!

i dont really care about the small storage because i only need it to hold windows and a few games i play, the other 1tb drive i have is used to put random stuff (like mapcrafter renders [like 30g each!] in

Video Card

i wish so bad that i could rate this five stars, but honestly, it is quite awful

i honestly don't entirely know what was up with it, but no matter what i tried i just could not afk fish (basically sitting afk on minecraft) for one overnight afk session, id wake up in the morning to find it crashed, and these crashes would happen while i'm playing as well... (the screen freezes, goes blank, then comes back fine, but black-screens any graphic-intensive program open, like video games...)

yes, i know for sure that this is the card (or possibly its compatibility with my build) because as soon as i up/downgraded to dual 550TIs i could afk fish for weeks at a time...

i also read that this problem is something that exists among the entirety of the 380/390 chipsets, maybe that's why they released the 480s? (i bought this card before they were released btw)

but i honestly love the card's looks so much that i think i will put it up on a shelf XD

(if you still want this card, there's a 4G version too, i feel like a spoon by getting the 2G version that costs just about as much... XD)

Power Supply

pros: perfect on arrival, nice simi-modular design, 850w so plenty of room for upgrades. fixed the issue i had where my pc would randomly freeze up due to insufficient wattage

cons: doesnt have a flux capacitor. (saw someone say that somewhere, had to do it too :P)

Operating System

i do not regret getting the full version in any way, being able to transfer between motherboards really helped with my latest upgrade.

as for windows 10 itself, i actually prefer it over windows 7 because it supports MUCH more ram and directx 12, and that multiple desktop feature is pretty handy

wish it would play dvds by default but honestly i would probably just use vlc player regardless...

Odd parts choice.. Gonna OC the 4350? Which parts did you already own?

shadowcrafter01
  • 9 years 1 month ago

the CPU is the slowest part on the build, i plan to see what i can get out of it before i get a new one. and i went with the 4350 because minecraft with optifine can only run with 2 cores, so i got the one that was faster, and it's cheaper too

The processor will defneitly bottleneck the gpu.

shadowcrafter01
  • 9 years 1 month ago

yea, when i got it i thought amd and intel were about the same, so i thought "woah! 4.2GHZs!" XD yea, it will probably be the first serous upgrade.

The processor is good for minor gaming, but the fx 6300 is way better and it cost a little bit more.

shadowcrafter01
  • 9 years 1 month ago

yea, but most games will only use like 2 of the cores, so i just wanted one that had more than 2 and was fast, and this one's single core speed is faster than the 6300

PowerColor's shroud fans looks really cool... Very detailed set of photos, nicely put together :3

Too bad the cooler sucks in general ;/

shadowcrafter01
  • 9 years 1 month ago

well the cooler itself isnt to bad, i'll check into the no screws thing, but it does cool better than others i have seen, and 60c actually isnt too bad when i looked into it

Well I hate having to deal with Afterburner, I want a quiet computer, and dealing with the heat sink being broken lol.

shadowcrafter01

wait, which heat sink fell off? the big main one with the fan attached or some small one partially covered by it?

Jerkface155

The Big one with the fan attached, so basically the whole thing lol the only thing holding the heat sink was the connector, but I'm quite excited for next Tuesday as I'm getting it back then. so yay!

good build and good cable management for the most part. 8350 is really the most logical step forward

shadowcrafter01
  • 9 years 1 month ago

yea, i plan on getting either the 8350 or 9xxx, but i heard that AMD is coming out with even faster ones this year or something, so i'm going to wait for those, and hope that they are compatible XD and i guess the cable management is ok, but i was never really concerned about it cause no one would ever really see inside as i have no window or anything

Dont consider the 9xxx, they are overclocked 8xxx cpus for more money. The new Zen processors will come out late this year but will use the AM4 socket.

shadowcrafter01
  • 9 years 1 month ago

that is generally what the 9xxxs are i suppose, but they are pre-overclocked XD to bad the new ones wont fit on mine, might as well switch to intel or something because id have to buy a new motherboard anyways

GreenCrios
  • 9 years 1 month ago

yeah with kaby-lake launching later this year around the time amd's Zen comes out, youre gonna have pretty good choices for a new cpu/mobo

shadowcrafter01
  • 9 years 1 month ago

yea, i plan on waiting at least until then before a CPU upgrade, but a new PSU is really what i need right now, the one i have is causing problems, the wattage is too low and stuff

When your CPU cooler almost costs as much as the CPU.

Jerkface155
  • 9 years 1 month ago

Yo, I feel like you should return that GPU if you can. Yeah it does look good and all, but hear me out. Recently I got the same GPU just the 4GB model instead and only 2 months into use and the heat sink fell off during use. Also a lot of people complained that the fans wouldn't turn on until the card is scorching hot.

shadowcrafter01
  • 9 years 1 month ago

i somewhat do agree with you on that, the card has actually crashed my computer a few times due to overheating, but i got MSI Afterburner and fixed it

your heat sink just fell off? was it screwed in? XD

shadowcrafter01
  • 9 years 1 month ago

ok, now im having issues where the monitor will suddenly lose connection, and the pc crashes, so its not an issue with the monitor, i was thinking that the gpu overheated, but now im not so sure, any help with this?

Jerkface155
  • 9 years 1 month ago

It wasn't at all which was weird, I currently am still waiting for an RMA on the damn thing. The only thing holding the Cooler was the thermal paste, which got so hot it turned into a liquidish substance, and the cooler couldn't hold on anything. so down she went. I guess I'll have to use MSI Afterburner like you are. :/

Jerkface155
  • 9 years 1 month ago

and also about your Issues I have no idea. my gpu did work completely fine until the heat sink fell off. so idk, If I were you get an RMA and sell the video card and buy a new one, maybe from MSI or something, and I wouldn't be surprised if your GPU did overheat aswell...

shadowcrafter01
  • 9 years 1 month ago

well the issues i was having i believe are gone, (something wrong with the drivers) and ive noticed the fans dont even turn on even when its at like 60c! so yea, no question im using afterburner, it works great on it too

Jerkface155
  • 9 years 1 month ago

Yeah use afterburner, A lot of people did report the fans not even flinching until the GPU is scorching hot, I'll probably be doing that, and I hope the heat sink doesn't fall off again lol, damn thing can't start Unturned without falling off XD

Is 1000 FPS enough?

Is that a good PSU...? ._.

Yea, I know they make great PSUs. But that doesn't even have the 80+ certification D:

shadowcrafter01
  • 9 years 1 month ago

that one is just a spare one that i threw in to save money, almost hitting the limit on wattage though, so i need a new one before i can make any upgrade, and i dont even know what 80+ certification is

FACUNDO

hehe

shadowcrafter01
  • 9 years 1 month ago

is there possibly an explanation inbound? XD

isnt it just efficiency level though?

SaltyMcSaltSalt
  • 7 years 10 months ago

I'm not sure you really needed a 850w psu. Couldn't you of just bought a 600w or 550w?

shadowcrafter01
  • 7 years 10 months ago

i originally had a 430w psu that was cutting it way to close so when upgrading i decided to go with one that would pose no issues on the wattage front for about forever

looking back i suppose it was a bit overboard but i still have no regrets with it

Okay, I understand.
