Hi everyone,

First-time builder here. I'm looking to build a $1,200 gaming PC (not including monitor, OS, or peripherals) and way out of my element. I know this isn't how this usually works, but I'd love to get some help and/or feedback on this sub-$1200 part list I've put together. It's based heavily on this build from PC Game Haven with a few modifications based on some initial research.

As a first-time builder, I'm also incredibly nervous about the build process. I liked the $1250 build that PC Part Picker did, and although that specific build is a little over my budget, I'd like my eventual PC to somewhat mirror that build so I can easily follow the assembly video.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Just over $1200, by 54 cents...

Great white themed build as I assumed that's what you were going for with your original part picks, improved the CPU cooler, motherboard now has built in Wi-Fi, and the power supply is more up-to-date than the EVGA NEX Series.

I'd pay an extra $12 for a much higher quality SSD

Good suggestion, the only reason I suggested the SSD I did was to keep it very close to the $1200 budget.

However, the SSD you picked is a lot better than the one I did, see here for more information.

Very good spot.

Maybe a cheaper cooler and something like a crucial MX300 SSD

  1. Get a Ryzen CPU instead. You get similar or better performance for less! Despite what people say these CPU’s are great for gaming.

  2. NEX PSU’s have cheap capacitors, use outdated tech, just barely get an 80+ Gold rating, and are overpriced.
