aaaand it was time for an upgrade. My PC across the room has fx6300, 16gb, gtx 970 etc which is a great PC for not too demanding games on decent graphics settings. I'm a battlefield nerd like a lot of people so I wanted something that would crush 60fps on ultra.
I debated heavily on going with the 7600k vs 7700k but from what I've read the 7600k seemed to be just as good at gaming. We don't do any heavy multi-core work here other than using handbrake for the occasional encode to .mp4 for apple tv. This thing kicks BF1's *** at Ultra and I've never seen it dip below 60fps.
Another component I debated on was the GPU. Obviously 1070's and 1080's are the rage right now and justifiably so. But I'm a working joe and couldn't afford one so I went with an 8gb RX480. I chose it for 2 reasons..1st its an 8gb card that can handle most new games and 2nd..its white and looks **** in the case. I do wish it had some lighting on it though, at least have the "asus" lit up or something.
Anyways, my kids built this cpu with* me which was a great experience. I use this new pc most of the time now and my kids are able to do minecraft and other games together which is cool.
We added some LED lighting from amazon. It was about $20 and it can cycle through various colors. My favorite is white to match the cables, case etc but the kids love the bright colors. It comes with an IR remote which is nice too all for $20.
Lastly I have a 1440' acer 23" monitor coming in tomorrow. I'm hoping the rx480 can handle 1440p at respectible FPS. Any users have experience with this card at 1440?
