Description

Lovingly named after my favourite Spider Person, this build is mostly to upgrade mine and my fiancé's 9.5 year old desktop. (i5 gen 1. Still runs well with windows 7 and an old NVidia video card for those curious about the old PC). This is pretty much to future proof it since we're not as hardcore of gamers as we used to be but there's still some games out coming up that we'd like to experience in it's finest settings. Did about 3 months worth of research before gathering parts and assembling this. Most of the guys at my local computer shop were super helpful and helped make the parts decision make sense.

Decided to go with an X470 board instead of the X570 to save some money but also since I wasn't planning on doing too much overclocking on this system. The only reason I actually overclocked was to take advantage of my RAM and that's it.

I will be using it for some gaming - the only graphics intensive one will probably be the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 and hopefully TES VI but otherwise it's mostly Civilization V, Guild Wars 2 and TESO. Will also be used for a lot of Photoshop/Illustrator in tandem for Dungeons and Dragons HQ maps. Will also using it for some old school gaming and just day to day computing because you know I have to be an adult sometimes.

As a new builder, the cabling was difficult for me. At first, I didn't plug in anything to the CPU fan and that was a mistake. The power cables were confusing and that aux power in the corner I forgot to plug in so I had to take the radiator out again to plug it in. But other than some minor head scratchers, I managed to build my very first PC! Had it running for a couple of days now and it's quiet. Far quieter than my old laptop that used to be 44 decibels on idle. This one doesn't go past 32 decibels on standard fan mode.

Part Reviews

CPU

Amazing processor. Haven't fully tested it yet but will probably be tested a lot when I'm doing things on Photoshop

CPU Cooler

First time handling an AIO. Works great and it does its job well. Unfortunately one of the fans it came with has a malfunctioning LED so I couldnt really keep it on since it was starting to get annoying. Also there was no the RGB is not on a 12v plug so I had to buy another accessory just to have addressable RBG in the case.

Motherboard

Went with this board since it had the best reviews for the old boards and it was far cheaper than the ASUS Prime X570-P I was looking at. Also my computer shop did the BIOS flashback for me for free which was $50 saved

Memory

This was on sale. I had my heart set on another set of RAM but the fact these went on sale for a LOT cheaper than the RAM I was looking at and it still looks good in my build, I cant complain with that.

Storage

Works magnificently. Use this as a dedicated Games drive. I just hope I have enough space to last until April of next year.

Storage

Primary drive mostly for applications and boot. Honestly one of the best investments I've made. I'm not sure if I can ever go back to booting from a HDD after this.

Storage

Really only have this to store all those pictures/maps/files. I cant complain with 4 TB of storage.

Video Card

Already overclocked. Was under $600 before taxes and the warranty. I love this card and I havent fully tested it yet.

Case

I love this case. This case stood out to me from the beginning of my research since I wanted something that was small but had a lot of airflow. I also bought the Sky Blue Mesh for the front to complete the look.

Power Supply

Was on sale and was highly recommended by a close friend. I loved that it was modular so I didnt have so much clutter at the bottom with unwanted wires.

Keyboard

First Mechanical Keyboard. I love the Linear switches this comes with since I can game in the mornings without waking up my partner. I love the Software it comes with too.

Custom

I love the colour a lot. I was debating between Sky Blue and Purple and I'm so happy I chose sky blue.

Custom

Quiet but trying to connect it was a pain. Didnt realize these were 5v when the MOBO only has 12. Had to buy the converter below to just make it work.

Custom

Cant be a Ghost Spider without the actual Ghost Spider in it.

I bought the 5pk rf 120 deepcool kit off amazon with 12v connection, after finding out the same as you did, no 5v header, gotta love how fast they ship!
