Description

The original build had 5820k, I received the 6950x first, to complete the build I had t to wait for my TWO 1080'S. This X99 build Started was mainly build for Productivity and to be able to upgrade to Broadwell E and Pascal when released.

I got the Silver Evolv ATX Limited Addition, it's a work of art and very easy to work with. To hold off until I got my hands on two strix I had to keep my old GTX 970s

I was very tempted in getting Dual 980ti's at the time of upgrades but it was only a couple months away so I dealt with it.

UPDATE: 05/31/16 I just upgraded to I7 6950x I wasn't going to but I got it at microcenter for $300 less than it would of cost if I bought it anywhere else. Plus I got the replacement warranty which is great. If for some odd reason I have an issue with it I can get it replaced or get the full amount as store credit. So I said why not.

Yes I'm very aware I could of gotten the Xeon E5-2680 v4 However that would of increased the cost an additional $200 from what I paid for the 6950X.

Update 06/24/16 While I wait for Microcenter to get the Stix OC in stock, I got a text saying they had some 1070's. So Went down and grabbed Msi GTX 1070 man that thing has Oc headroom galore. I didn't get the X version but this thing OC'd so well no reason to get the X for a card that was going to sit in my rig for maybe a couple of weeks.

Update: 06/30/16 Of course right when I get the 1070 I get a message saying they have the Stix OC 1080's. Which was fine I had the cash saved for them.

I got lucky with my cpu It's stable 4.6 didn't have to pull the voltage past 1.35. I do notice at times It does over volts itself to around 1.40 So I might throttle back to 4.4 and call it day. But so far the temps are not passing 65 degrees C on max load during a torture test.

The Stix OC 1080's I got them to a stable Overclock of 2100.5. I can't wait for custom bios so I can get rid of Boost 3.0 and hard cap them at 2100. :)

So now I have a spare 5820k, GTX 970 and a GTX 1070.

My Nephew doesn't have a rig so I'm going to build him 1080p gaming rig with the 970 and 5820k. The 1070 is going into my kids build.

As for monitors I have the LG 34UC98-W I didn't buy it was a gift. Since I do play games from time to time. I'm planning on Getting a pair X34p's when they come out or if they Make 4k's with higher hz I might go that route.

The Cables I got are the corsair ones, they are ok but are ***** to train, so I ordered some custom cables and going to be replacing those. All in all I'm happy with this build, I'm considering doing a full custom water loop.

I love the case it's so easy to work with.

Why does everyone like this case so much? It's so dull and simplistic and not in a good way like NZXT's H440. This is just plain and ugly. [Incoming hate replies].

Great looking build. Didnt think a red/black graphics card would fit with a blue/black themed build, but it actually works.

  • 1 point

Me either but I am waiting on the new cards to drop. So I used my old card until then :) When it was done I was like ok that is not so bad.

What card are you planning on getting?

I'm leaning towards the 1080 Stix if not the EVGA FTW

That mnpctech bracket is interesting. I've never seen one before but I like the idea of it and what it accomplishes.

It's well built too

Thanks for posting. Sob. It's just so beautiful.

BTW: I use this same model mobo, and it's been solid for just about a year now.

I had a fun time Originally I had a msi board both were doa, luckily Microcenter is not far so I just returned it and got this one. I really wanted the deluxe but they only had the pro. :)

is that a GPU brace to help with the dreaded GPU drooping issue on heavy GPU's? whats the brandname? and how much is it? or its a custom self built GPU brace?

I'm planning on upgrading the cpu to 6950x when it comes out. :)

I think you should upgrade the gpu instead

I got the 970 open box and the prices in micro center for the 5820k was the same.

Would this case support the MSI X99A Godlike motherboard?

  • 1 point

The Phanteks Enthoo Evolv supports EATX [Extended ATX] motherboards so yes it is compatible.

If you can afford a 6950x (which you clearly can), than you should go for SLI on a couple pascal GPUs, otherwise those 40 PCIe express lanes will go to waste.

  • 1 point

I am, I reserved two 1080's of each Company FTW or the Strix so which ever comes first I'll get it. :)

First 6950x on PCPP how does it perform vs the 5820k?

  • 1 point

Hows that 6950X serving you?

  • 1 point

What are you using this build for? And how is that 6950X holding up? That cpu totally overkill. I bet it wrecks in rendering stuff.

  • 1 point

someone actually bought the 6950x...

  • 2 points

They wouldn't make it if people wouldn't buy it lol. Some people just have a lot of money and a passion about PCs, who are you to judge them?

I'm not the only one 4 other guys behind me got one as well, They only had 5 of them. Sold out in 5 minutes.

  • 1 point

lol all this and then at gtx 970... u should upgrade to like the 1080 ti or like a titan ultra or summat +1

I already reserved two 1080's just waiting for them to show up.

Bet that the gtx 970 has serious bottleneck on your insane CPU Suggest 2 1080s in SLI for no bottleneck if you're gaming After all the 6950x is the only 10 core desktop cpu in the world :O

  • 1 point

I did mention that in the description. I'm waiting on my two 1080's

I like the build but why didn't you get a 4790k and a Titan x? You would get much better performance.

Absolutely amazing build and almost identical to the one I am planning. I recently received my 6950x in the mail and am now only waiting on the tempered glass Evolv ATX case to arrive and third party 1080's to get in stock. In the meantime I am also stuck with the MSI 970 that I will later be giving to a friend for a graduation gift. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who thought of putting Intel's latest 10 core CPU into an Evolv ATX. Once again great build. :D

Cant imagine a Hyperthreaded 10-core running at 4.6GHz, must tear through everything you throw at it. Cant wait to see what it looks like with the two 1080s. Good build man. Also what monitor(s) are you going to be using? I mean when those 1080s get here you'll have enough power to run 3 Predator X34s. (Please do some overkill monitor setup too)
