Description

Hello all! My name is Harm, also know as L5hunter on the internet. I built this machine as a test of my abilities and a kill-all gaming rig, while still trying to have something of a budget (fun fact: originally the budget was $800). I am very happy with this build.

Part Reviews

CPU

Very happy with this processor. It easily overclocks to 4.8 on my system, but for stability and temperature I keep it at 4.6 GHz.

CPU Cooler

This cooler is amazing. It looks great, it's incredibly quiet, but the mounting and install is weirdly complicated. The fan is mounted with a sort of hinge-like thing, and that seems unnecessary.

Motherboard

Had all of the functions I needed. M.2 slot, many PCI-E slots (but only 1 1x slot?), support for 3-way SLI, and overclocks quite well. The only reason it has 4 stars is because it only has 1 PCI-E 1x slot.

Memory

It's RAM. It functions as expected.

Storage

A rippin fast drive for your storage needs! I boot in about 8 seconds on this mother.

Video Card

Man oh man do I like this card. It stays consistently cool, and is unbelievably quiet. With a more aggressive fan curve I could probably overclock this more, but I like the complete silence.

Case

A very customizable and huge case. You could easily fit in anything inside of this case, from watercooling radiators to graphics cards. The thumb screws are a great addition. However, the side window scratches VERY easily, so I would recommend getting an acrylic one.

Wireless Network Adapter

Great range on this thing. Cheap too!

Keyboard

clickclickclickclickclickclickclack

Mouse

What a nice, comfy mouse! More macros than you could ever need.

You should build a reclaimed wood case for the pc. Probably get featured too. I like your setup

Thanks, also did you ever consider water cooling? Im sure you dont need it but as a extra challenge? And what are your Average FPS's on most games

I always have Vsync on, so my FPS is a rock solid 60 frames on basically everything.

I like what you did to the case, very eye catching. I am a big fan of Air 540 also. Pretty sophisticated build but I take it that you have some experience and it shows. Good job. I like the table your keyboard is sitting on. I don't recall seeing anything like this before.

How do all you young prople buy things without a credit card? Do you just buy everything cash at best buy etc? I think you need to be a certain age for paypal and a bank account also. Maybe there is a way to get a bank account if your parents are on the account or something.

What I used to do before I got a bank account was give my parents the cash for what I wanted, and they would buy it with their cards.

If you mean how do people buy things without Credit... Well, you save? Don't buy stuff with money that isn't yours?

You can get a debit account with your parents as a cosigner at any age. I got mine at 15 when I got my first job. I'm 23 now.

I really like the green modification you did on the mesh of the case, it almost appears as if you have some really bright LED fans!

  • 1 point

Yeah how did you do that? That illuminating green through the mesh? Looks amazing!

I really like this build overall. The only thing I would say it probably needs is a backplate for the GPU.

should probably turn the cooler sideways, i own one and have the exact same ram on a more compact board and it just barely doesnt interfere with the ram. also if you dont feel comfortable with that, flip the cooler upside down from your position to have Be Quiet! in the correct orientation, the fan can be then put on the top as well.

Building my pc in q1 of 2017 will have £1200 by den! Thinking about custom watercooling! 13 fyi!

Why not get a 1070? It would even have been cheaper in most instances than the 980 and also would be VR ready if you ever wanted it?

The point of mentioning my age is to further the idea that anyone can build a computer. Also I've never had any issues with any CX series power supply. I used to have quite a few bitcoin miners, and I still have a bunch of PSUs laying around. They have always been reliable.

Look online for jobs. Glassdoor might help you out. Publix is a great choice, ive heard that they pay pretty well. Considering your age you have a crap ton of options.
