Description

Always wanted to build my own computer for gaming or just to have something reliable to use for all my needs. Obviously didn't want to throw in $1000+ into a computer because that's just way too much to waste right now as I have other things needing attention. However that didn't stop me from trying to build one.

What started things was finding the motherboard and cpu being sold on Craigslist for $100, quickly ran and got it off the person and didn't stop there, i just had to make myself buy more parts but for the cheapest. Everything bought here was practically new besides the case. Found someone selling the ram w/ ssd combo for $70, ran and got that, the 500gb hard drive was from my previous computer and just ripped that out of it. Bought the gpu with the heatsink for $90, found the case for $70, the power supply for $60 still wrapped up in plastic in its packaging and there I had it, everything I needed to create a computer. Just picked up the wireless adapter today as a free gift, 150mbps isn't the best but it'd have to do now, I'm looking to add a bigger hard drive and a DVD burner from whenever I do find one for a good price.

Currently using a plain dell keyboard and Toshiba mouse with my 24' tv.

Part Reviews

CPU

was a great cpu for everything i did on the computer, i never got to use it to its full potential but i was happy with it.

CPU Cooler

kept my cpu at a nice temperature, never did try overclocking with it though. only complaint i have is the same as everyones and its the difficulty of putting it on.

Motherboard

worked well for my needs

Case

awesome case with an enormous amount of room for expansion

Wireless Network Adapter

didnt work that well as it'd disconnect from time to time and id have troubles reconnecting but it worked fine whenever it did.

Craigslist is a beautiful thing. I've gotten tons of cool stuff cheap(ish) from CL. Only been burned once. +1, nice job

You said you had "been burned once." So I linked burn centers around the USA for you.

I'm just messin' with you, no hard feelings.

craigslist is what smart people use to save thousands of dollars , i recently got a rig with i5 3570k and a gtx780ti for about 350 bucks..... overclocked that i5 to 4.9ghz on hyper 212 evo also

Great build! I'm in the same situation. I just built my amazing computer just by using Craigslist and sometimes frys electronics. It took me around 3-4 years of craigslitsting and actually just put the story up. Keep up the good work! Much respect. +1

nice job with finding those great sales. I recommend getting a gtx 970 or an r9 290 when you can afford it, it will have big performance boost in gaming, and work on the cable management. use the routing holes to hide the cables behind the motherboard. other than that, nice build.

Yeah, I plan on upgrading the gpu sooner or later, will most likely go with the gtx 970 and I'll try my best to hide the cables, I honestly didn't do so because I couldn't really find a hiding spot haha

I think one of the reasons i like this set up is the processor and the air cooler is the same one i plan on using on my build. But i also like a nice glow to the case.

Why the hell didn't I think of Craigslist for my parts? I could have saved so much money.

after I saw this I immediately went to craigslist, all I saw were a bunch of old monitors that were like 17" 2002 dell monitors for like 20 bucks, and a bunch of printer ink cartridges when I scrolled further to a little further than my house, "might be a long drive but worth it if I can pick up a 8350 for like 50$ lol" still nothing but I guess I scrolled in the ghetto because there were rusted pickup trucks for 200$ and even a trailer (home???) in a trailer park for sale for 500$ with a bunch of crap in the yard, oh craigslist!

Lmao, must not have a lot of pc builders around the area, should try looking at listings from places that are about 20-30miles out aswell

Don't really know, don't really game much anymore. So far I've only been playing old games such as Killing Floor and CounterStrike 1.6. I've also been playing farcry 3
