Description

This is my finished build... as of today :)

All but the monitor, mouse, and WD black were purchased in the past 12 months with many thanks to slickdeals.net As a whole its pretty and runs like a dream! ALL prices are listed as after rebate and tax and are accurate to withing a $1! The only thing not right is the speakers, they are CR4 special editions that match the HD598 perfectly...

I view this system as the ultimate balanced machine...

Picture: Just about as good as you can get for 1080 Sound: HD598 and Mackie CR4 less then 250$ for both good luck finding a better entry level combo Peripherals: K70 brown and G9x... Amazing! Everything else... just looks and runs good!

FYI the case is no longer blue as it has been painted black... I brought a blue case when I was planning on a blue MOBO but I got a great combo on the 4790k/MOBO so red it is! I do plan on swapping the blue LED!

Part Reviews

CPU

I lost the Lotto, I am stable at 4.6. BUT core 3 always runs 6-7 degrees colder then 1,2 and 4. So there must bean issue with the TIM under the heat spreader or something.

Re-set cooler 3 times thats not the problem

CPU Cooler

Black, cold and Silent what else matters!

If you have a socket set with an extension this is super easy to install! IF not its a bit of a pain.

Motherboard

Love setting up snazzy fan curves! BUT I wish you could use GPU temps to control some of the fans... Then it would be perfect for me.

Memory

Good deal no issues... its RAM?

Storage

First SSD, need i say more!!! If I could go back I would get a 500GB, 250GB is enough but you have to think about where your saving large files and how much you need them.

Storage

Iv had the drive for 8 years and its great! Until you build a silent system then its easily the loudest thing. But with a little config in windows it spins down when not in use so +1

Video Card

Currently love the look of the card and its performance. It was silent!

The bearing went bad after about 5 months and I have had some RMA issues with Powercolor... Will update when issues have been resolved (Better or worse)

Case

Great product to go with great service! The headphone jack on the front IO failed day 2 of the build and NZXT had a new one on my door step within a week!

Power Supply

Modular and quiet I haven't heard it yet and it has a 9.8 from JonnyGuru.com

Operating System

Got it of a website, they sent my a picture of the CD Key sticker on a Windows CD case.

My assumption is that when a store like Walmart stopped stocking their shelf's with windows 7. So in order to recoup some capital they sold them in bulk. The purchaser is now selling them at a steep discount.

Monitor

Bought it 7 years ago, so $300 was a good deal

Keyboard

Love it, just have to keep my wife away she wants to take it to work

Mouse

after 8 year, I cant remember what other gaming mice feel like!

Headphones

Hard to have to wait until Black Friday to get a good deal on these, but they are worth it!

Speakers

I sold my cheep 5.1 speakers that were in a 2.1 config for these.... Im glad I did looks amazing and sounds it too.

This is perfect.. All black looks great, funny thing is I just saw an all white build that is a couple posts down from yours. Reminds me of those black and white spy cartoons, heres the link, http://pcpartpicker.com/b/3G9WGX Great job!

I think the white builds are beautiful unfortunately the wife would rather it not be a focal point. So all black makes both of us happy!

That cooler is pretty sick! I've got the Sennheiser HD 518 set. I love them!

Ive got the same set, fantastic. Did yours sound like cardboard when you first got them? Mine did, it took several hours of use to get them worked in and sounding great.

Yeah mine too a few hours to get them sorted out. Once everything was set it was perfect!

Just about as good as you can get for 1080 Sound: HD598 and Mackie CR4 less then 250$ for both.

Don't you mean 150? Tested the CR4 and gotta say they're not my cup of tea. Went with the M-Audio BX-8. Those are 220 USD on amazon.
Nice build btw. ; ) +1

My speaker budget was a bit tight it was between the CR4 and a Lepy/ mb42x. I am considering adding a sub but as of now im happy. -Really I guess it should have been less then $225 for both...
$98 for the HD-598SE on black friday $125 for the CR4 SE from amazon warehouse (maybe I got yours)

Haha...nah, i never had them, tested them instore. To me they sound like typical PC media speakers and i needed proper studio monitoring. Pretty happy with the BX-8 for quite some time now... : )

How was your experience with powercolor RMA? did you get it resolved in a timely manner? I sent my card in and crossing my fingers that it takes less than a month. They tested my card as non display so wondering if it truly takes 14 days for them to ship it out after they finish testing.

I've got the same RAM (in white), and would highly recommend it. It's low profile is great for large coolers, and it overclocks like a beast. I have my 1866mhz set overclocked to 2133mhz currently, but it was stable at 2200mhz. Increased my physics score a surprising amount in the Firestrike benchmark.

Could you provide the clearance of your CPU cooler? And did you have to raise it at all to fit the RAM?
