This is my second personal build and my seventh build overall, its nothing spectacular and I didn't need it for extreme gaming on the 4K monitor that I can't afford. I just love to build and I knew this one would perform exactly how I wanted it to. I use it mostly for World of Warcraft but I'm on Division until Legion drops. In WoW on Ultra, I get about 135 fps. I know it's not a graphically demanding game but it's a beautiful number to see and The Division is locked in at about 85 fps. It's all about the FPS! I really just want to give you my honest opinion on each individual part and tell you whether on not it did what I wanted it to do. So here we go.
i5-6600K - I was originally going to go for the i7-4790K but the 6th Gen was the latest and greatest and I was too much of a tight-wad to fork over the extra $100. Plus, the 6th gen processors don't ship with coolers so it gave me a reason to buy an AIO cooler from Corsair.
H100i GTX - This does exactly what it's supposed to, my CPU never reaches temps over 25c even after long gaming sessions. The only complaint I have is that it can be loud, the Corsair software adjusts the fans based on the temps so after a few hours your fans are blowing full blast. Also, the hoses are stiff which makes installation at least in the S340 a b***h...
GA-Z170XP-SLI - My color scheme was black and lime green, LGA 1151 boards in lime green don't exist. (At least not when I was looking.) So, I set my sights on a black board that would be easy to paint and that was SLI compatible. So, I ordered this one, painted the heat sinks, took a pic and...the dn board is dark a brown. I thought about sending it back but I thought it might blow everyone at Gigabyte mind when they saw green instead of red or gold on one of their boards. Employee at Gigabyte opens the box... "My God! What type of sorcery is this! IS THAT LIME GREEN?!?! AHHHHH!" Anyways, I kept it and it doesn't look bad as long as I turn the flash off when I take pics lol
Crucial 16GB - I started with 8GB because I didn't see a huge benefit with 16GB in a low end system like this. But...they dropped in price from $57 to $38 so I said why not. The gray color wasn't a big deal because the ram slots in the board were black and gray so it let me incorporate gray into the lime green and black scheme and I was able to expand the gray to peripherals like my Hyper X Cloud 2.
Seagate 1TB Hybrid - Love it, I get start up speeds faster than an HDD and just a little slower than an SSD plus 1TB of memory. This was a no brainer for me because a 1TB SSD can be around $500...
MSI GeForce GTX 970 100ME - Black and Green! It's sad to say but I read a lot of bad things about the 970 before I bought it. I will go ahead and tell you it's all lies. Fallout 4 is beautiful, the Division is beautiful, WoW is beautiful and they all run smooth as butter. I have never once gone into my settings because the graphics just weren't cutting it. I can dive into any game without having to touch the settings and be completely immersed in it. But, like any responsible 26 year old who just trying to make it in the world I am about to sell this and get the EVGA Hybrid 980Ti...
NZXT S340 - I wish I would have gone with a gray or white case maybe Phanteks or something, the shiny black exterior and matte black interior picks up fingerprints big time and I hate to say it but you cant even clean the shiny black with a microfiber cloth without putting hairline scratches in the paint and I knew that I wasn't getting a drive bay and I was perfectly fine with that but it has been a pain in the neck. I have an external drive but that's desk space gone and I'm all about a clean, uncluttered desk. My desk is 60x32 btw lol
Antec 650W - This was on sale for $80, another no brainer for me. Seasonic and Antec are the best in my opinion.
Windows 10 - I wish I would have stuck with Windows 7. 10 is cool but you have to have a local account and an online account and you cant use some features if you are using one and not the other. Its just a big unnecessary mess to me. I could be doing something wrong though lol
Corsair Quiet Fans - Replaced my case fans and added the SP120s to the radiator with the 2 fans that were already on the radiator. Painted the rings lime green and actually cut down on the noise quite a bit.
ASUS VG248E - LOVE IT! 144hz with a 1ms response time. Where you at EVGA Hybrid 980Ti???
Strafe RGB Keyboard MX Silent - Silent and beautiful, the software is crazy hard to use if you want to make a custom lighting effect that isn't just certain keys lit up on the board. I'm still in the phase with the software that I'm just staring at the screen with my mouth wide open clicking stuff until something happens. "OMG! I MADE IT BLINK!"
Logitech G600 - Yes yes yes...throw away your Razer Naga and order this right now. I went through 2 Razer Naga's in a year before discovering this. This is the second one I've owned only because I sold the first one with my first build after 3 years of use.
Kingston Hyper X Cloud II - These are awesome as well, sounds are clear and crisp and the detachable mic is awesome, just hook them up to your phone and walk around town jamming out to your favorite songs. Personally I wouldn't do it, but the option is there.
Cyber Acoustics CA-3602 - These are good for a temporary sound system. They don't quite cut it straight out of the box so you'll have to fiddle with your system sound for a little while before they sound decent.
Sorry, I had to add bobble head chief in there...Thanks for reading hope it helps!
