Description

I needed a machine that could easily handle Docker containers, VMs, compile and execute unit tests in parallel && many Chrome tabs open.

I overclocked the CPU @ 4.1GHZ but kept default speed for AVX.

The Evolv X case, EVGA x299 Dark motherboard and Kraken cooler DON'T work well together!

  • connecting the cables to the motherboard in the Evolv X was a nightmare! This case is great for ATX motherboards.... but not so great with EATX, especially for EVGA x299 Dark because of the direction of the connectors.

  • the case... overall quality is not there, one plastic clip from the right side of the case got broken :(

  • the motherboard VRM fans and the heatsink is blocking the access to the cooler USB port

  • access to the U.2 ports is limited because of the GPU

  • the motherboard has no USB 3.1 header for the front of the case

On the plus side

  • the case looks amazing and I love the aluminium panels

  • the motherboard feels solid, bios has a stress test tool built-in and runs very cool

  • the cooler is easy to install and looks nice

Thanks. I just checked out your build and ...wow! love the two reservoirs, it looks amazing. I was in between the 9960x and TR 2950x, but I decided to go with Intel just because I needed AVX512. What are you using your machine for?

Thanks! Yea that Intel is pretty sweet, it's a touch choice but if you were set on 16 cores, you made the right choice.

My build is kind of an aspirational build, being a kid that loved computers and finally being able to afford a maxed out PC, i went for it. But I do software dev, and that's what I'll primarily be using it for. Lol my cpu usage is always like 3% or 5%. Although I've seen it go up to 80-90% when compiling stuff in Visual Studio.

How is the PSU? Have you had any problems with it? Is it quite when under load? I’m struggling to find any reviews on it

I didn’t had any problems with the PSU, however if you want to have some nice looking cables like the ones from cablemod.com then I would go with a different brand (...you can get cable extensions that look good, but then the efficiency of the power supply drops)
