Description

This was my first ever build that I started back in June of 2019 after a month or so of research. I just recently got it to a place that I am pleased with. I mainly use it for gaming, but also for work and general web browsing.

I originally purchased a MSI RX 570 for this build. I used it for a few months but wasn't super happy with the performance. I started shopping around and found that Microcenter was running a sale on the PowerColor Red Dragon Vega 56 for $220. The deal was too good to pass on so I got it and instantly fell in love. It runs cool and has great overclock/undervolting potential. My only complaint is that the coil whine can be gnarly at high FPS.

Overall, this build was an awesome experience and it has made me a PC enthusiast for life!

Part Reviews

CPU

Great CPU and cooler combo. It performs extremely well and has decent overclock potential. I overclocked to 3.7 GHz on 1.2V. I may look to upgrade in the next year but for now it does the job.

Motherboard

Great board. Have no issues what so ever. BIOS are easy to navigate and RGB is a nice touch.

Memory

Good, no frills, RAM. Have to enable XMP profile and OC to reach listed speed.

Storage

Perfect budget SSD. Use it as my boot drive and have all my applications and documents saved to it.

Storage

Very fast SSD. Keep all my games stored here.

Video Card

Amazing card that I got for an even better deal! $220 at Microcenter around Black Friday.

I have only used the card at 1080p, but it runs every game I own like a dream. Triple fans keep temps low and are surprisingly quiet. I overclocked/undervolted for even better performance and efficiency.

My only complaints are that it sags a bit and the coil whine can be quite loud depending on the game and frames. It has gotten better over time and I've learned to tune it out.

Overall a great card that I can't recommend enough!

Case

Looks really nice. Small and overall easy to build in. Large GPUs will be a tight fit.

Power Supply

Hasn't blown up yet so I guess it's pretty good.

Wireless Network Adapter

Works great and is cheap. No problems connecting to WiFi.

Monitor

Recently got this for Christmas. Really like it and the curve is a nice touch. The 144hz refresh rate is extremely smooth. Can never go back to 60hz.

Keyboard

Decent keyboard. I no longer use the mouse but that was alright as well.

Mouse

Have the SE version. Really decent looking mouse. I like the adjustable RBG and it has a nice weight to it that I personally like.

What fans are those? The white provides plenty of light to illuminate the interior without an extra LED strip. The red glow from the underside of the motherboard is a great accent. +1

Thank you! They're upHere RGB fans. I got a pack of 5 of them for like $30 on amazon. For some reason they're not here as an option which is why I didn't include them. I like them so far.
