Build

Revenant 2.0

by PapaCasiel

Description

Originally this build was mainly for art programs (photoshop, illustrator, flash) and some light gaming, but my god....games look SO much better on the pc, so, I bit the bullet and decided I could have it both ways. My original build had an i5 3570k, 8gb Corsair Ballistic DDR3-1600, 2TB Western Digital Green (psd files can get big), Gigabyte H61M-DS2 motherboard (microATX), AMD HD7770, my old microsoft sidewinder keyboard (again, gaming was not a priority) logitech wireless laser mouse and a friend had given me their apple 24" cinema monitor (was really nice). I had a thermaltake case, v3 I believe, and i used that for the main build. I'll detail my upgrades from there in the parts review. Now go behold them glorious pictures, marvel at it's innate awesomeness, contemplate it's sheer sexiness, bear witness to it's alluring blue glow.

CPU Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor (OCED to 4.0Ghz) No reason to change what isn't broken, and I had yet to OC the little guy. So safe to say this was an opportunity I wouldn't waste.

CPU Cooler Antec Kuhler H2O 620 Liquid CPU Cooler I had always wanted to liquid cool. And the sheer silence you hear after you install it is amazing. It cools like a Champ, the CHAMP....JOHN CENA!!!!!!! No, no....no John Cena. No mas John Cena.

Motherboard Asus P8Z77-V LK ATX LGA1155 Motherboard Went around the forums and looked for motherboards to overclock with. This one kept popping up, and since my color scheme for the interior lightning would be blue, I mean come on. On the plus side, it's just pretty.

Memory Crucial Ballistix 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory Again, more than enough for my needs, but I do admit those 2 empty slots do look sad. Will probably be buying another set to push this bad boy to 16gb. Or might just go for their sport line, as they have a BLUE (Woooooo!) Heatsink.

Storage Crucial V4 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive The SSD BLEW ME AWAY. I figured fast, just not TURBOHOLYMCSKITTLEFRIESWTHBBQSAUCE fast. And yes that's a word, it's in the Dictionary, look it up. I'll wait.....what? It isn't?, Snorklegoggles!!....oh well still gonna be using it.

Storage Western Digital 2TB 3.5" 5900RPM Internal Hard Drive Same trustworthy, dependable, Milhouse, err....I mean hard drive, just reformatted to hold and protect them files.

Video Card Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card So, first time I get a GAMER card. Or enthusiast card, or "look it's on ULTRA, and the computer didn't burst into flames" card. I have to say, I now understand why so many people game on their PC's. The graphics, sweet fancy Jehosephat, the graphics. They are amazing and cotton candy flavored. I actually almost licked the screen when I ran Crysis 2 for the first time with everything and I mean, even the "pimple close up" option, everything maxed.

Case NZXT Phantom 530 (White) ATX Full Tower Case I started thinking about a new build after seeing the SEXY BEAST of a case that is the Phantom 530. I've worked with cases before but this one has been a pleasure. It had everything I needed and was so easy to use and build on. From the fan controls to the removable drives and clean, and I mean CLEAN look, there was no other case I wanted save for the H400, but in the end the Phantom won me over. Did I mention it's sexy? (SIDE NOTE: During my upgrade I accidentally broke the windowed door of my Phantom, don't ask how, point is it happened. So i went to NZXT.com to look for a replacement and they didn't sell one, well ONE email later to ask if I could purchase one, NZXT sent me a replacement for free!!! FREE!!!! Safe to say they have my vote for life, their dedication to their customers is amazing. And their cases aren't to shabby either.)

Power Supply Thermaltake TR2 500W ATX Power Supply Reliable is a word that gets thrown around a lot, so I imagine it mustn't weigh much, but this PSU is just that. Had it since that early build and still runs like a pro. A wrestling pro, like the Undertaker or Obama. No reason to replace it....until the inevitable "maybe I want to run SLI" day in the future. Also, want me a modular one.

Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 OEM 64-bit Not Windows 8. Nuff said.

Monitor Acer S275HL 27.0" 60Hz Monitor So, here I am, at your friendly neighborhood MicroCenter, looking for a new monitor. I had a budget of $180, so I figured a 23.6" monitor was just the ticket. (Hopefully to a nice concert) IPS if I could, but I wanted something better than the 14ms the old monitor was giving me. Lo and behold, their open box section gets rolled up right in front of me, and there, in all it's glory, was a box that looked like it had been opened to verify that yes, there was a monitor inside and nothing else. All for the low low price of $160. Well my good friend, can I call you Jimothy?, I grabbed it ran to the cashier paid cashmoney and then ran home to find that it still had the protective covering on the screen. So I'm kind of wierded out that the price for it online is for $1199.95. Maybe a 1 too many? It looks amazing, has a 6ms refresh and IPS. ::drools::

Keyboard Corsair Vengeance K60 Wired Gaming Keyboard So yeah, I know they have a Keyboard that glows all sexy blue and is sexy. But I bought this keyboard before I went ahead and decided on the white/black/blue look for the new build. But I usually don't play in the dark,(Bad for the eyes and all that) and I've grown fond of it. Maybe when this one sheds this mortal coil (ie. I "accidentally" spill Dr.Pepper on it.), maybe I'll look into the Corsair Keyboard that glows blue.

Mouse Corsair Vengeance M95 Wired Laser Mouse My old logitech gave up the ghost and I wanted to go for a wired mouse with extra buttons as I play MMO's, and it matches my case, that alone should offer enough reasons. If not, I like that it glows blue OKAY?!!!

Headphones Corsair Vengeance 2100 7.1 Channel Headset Amaze-balls-ingly good sound. Never had a 7.1 headset before, it it glorious. I can hear the flutter of a butterfly's wing, I can hear a pin drop, I can hear you deepest darkest thoughts (eww, btw). Buy one...like now...now.....go.....NAOW!!!
