Description

For those interested, sign up to In Win's newsletter, build was featured in their April edition, which is awesome :)

Glass Fusion

An overhaul of my main build Aurora. Aurora was on my initial account but with my move to this new account I was going to repost it, much like my “White Fusion” HTPC, but I was pretty much overhauling it from top to bottom so figured I would post the new build. I am happy with the outcome and more excitingly In Win will be including it in their monthly newsletter, coming soon, so keep your eyes peeled :D

From Aurora few parts were kept, the case, some of the water cooling components, 2 SSD’s, 2 of the Titan X’s and the keyboard. Everything else from CPU, motherboard and monitor, down to the mouse, fans and sleeved cabling is new for this build. In a way it allowed me to keep the aesthetics of Aurora while upping pretty much everything else.ome compromises were made as the case is all form over function, but I love it too much so was willing to make said sacrifices.

The priority for this build was to essentially be able to play any games (not that I actually even game much now days) thrown at the pc while remaining fairly quiet but also looking aesthetically pleasing to myself. For the most part it does that plus some, it can get a bit on the loud side when I overclock things, but that's why you invest in speakers / headphones :D

CPU - 5960x - 4.8 Ghz / Motherboard - ASUS X99 E-WS

So off the bat I knew I wanted the X99 E-WS. Aesthetically it's been my favourite board and the silver and black only theme looked amazing and fit the build perfect. It is slightly wider than an ATX board that meant cable management was somewhat harder, but after I custom sleeved my own cables for the build and done away with the heat shrink, it gave enough flexibility.

The board unlike most is targeted at workstation user with their 12k black chokes and PLX chips and so on, but feature set wise has pretty much everything the ROG line has. For those unaware, PLX chips provide Extra PCI-E lanes. This board has a pair of PLX chips so the board actually has 48 PCI-E lanes. Combined with the 40 on the 5960x the system has a total of 88 PCI-E 3.0 lanes. Gotta admit, seeing all three Titan X’s @ x16 is pretty cool even if irrelevant.

But what of the CPU. I stumbled across a J-Batch 5960x. For those unaware, these are the golden samples of 5960x’s and supposedly overclock well, so took the plunge. The retailer did not know or care what the J-Batch was so went around and dug out their last sample.

I set up an initial raw overlock of just setting the voltage to 1.35 volts and seeing how far I could get just changing the multiplier. 37, check, 42, check, 44, um check, 47 check WTF, 48, fail. At this point with just a raw overclock I was beyond amazed. most 5960x’s land in the 4.4 Ghz region tuned, but this sample was going straight to 4.7 Ghz :O so after some further tweaking and some extra voltage, 4.8 Ghz stable was reached, very happy.

For normal use however I set the memory to 3000 Mhz which set the BCLK of 125 which basically means it becomes the multiplier * 125. So I work in increments of 125. For synthetics I therefore use 38*125 = 4.75 Ghz which although behind 4.8 Ghz obviously, is more than made up for the fact that the memory is running at 3000 Mhz vs 2133 Mhz.

Daily use is at 1.3 volts @ 4.625 Ghz which is multiplier of 37 * 125 BCLK which is fine. Temps at idle are 35 or so degrees as the fan RPM’s run low and under load 55-60 degrees stress test thanks to its own 360mm rad.

Monitor - ASUS ROG Swift PG348Q

The final piece to arrive for my overhaul. An ultra wide panel recently only been released in Asia and Europe and still TBA elsewhere. I had this buet pre-ordered for a while as I do love the ultra wide format. I have actually used the format since my first build in the form of the LG 34UC97-S and amusingly this panel and the ACER X34 use the exact same panel found in that monitor.

So you may wonder why upgrade. Well simply put, G-Sync + 100 hz. These two features really do improve game play experience and after helping my brother build his skylake rig with the X34 I found. G-Sync smooths out the fps on occasions when FPS drops a notch while being able to run up to 100 fps makes the game feel very smooth indeed, games like witcher 3, Shadow of Mordor play amazingly.

Aesthetically the monitor does look sweet. I admit I do like the classy look of the prior LG, but the aggressive look of this panel does have an appeal. The stand does sit far forward however and on my smaller desk while my games room is being built, so it's a bit in your face. I expect that is to make way for the ASUS ROG laser the shoots down on to the desk which does look sweet.

Either way 3440 x 1440 + G-Sync + 100hz = Amazing

GPU EVGA Titan X SC

The Trio of Titan X’s are probably the most important part of the PC from a performance point of view and work hard to pump out FPS on to the ROG Ultrawide. All 3 of my cards run on the stock EVGA SC bios, which basically allows them to run at 1450 Mhz no issue. This may sound low compared to 980Ti’s and this is because by default Nvidia puts a restrictive limiter in place on the BIOS. One reason why aftermarket 980Ti’s seem to perform so well is because they have modded BIOS’s already loaded thanks to aftermarket cooling solutions. Putting on a similar unrestricted power envelope on the Titan X’s allows my best sample to hit 1575 Mhz / 8000 Mhz on the memory and the other two coming in at 1550 range. However the power draw and heat generate is massive.

With 3 on aftermarket BIOS’s the power draw is close to 1350 watts from the wall, so testing had to be done on my brothers EVGA 1600 watt model and for daily use I need to put the shackles back on, if not for the power limit, definately for the extra heat these BIOS’s generate with high OC’s.

For those curious why they are not under water. Simple fact is the case is limited to a 360mm radiator. Putting the 3 Titan Xs and 5960x on a 360mm rad....... As I noted earlier, love the case, so a compromise had to be made, this is one of them.

Case - IN Win Tou

Tou- Transparent in Chinese and an apt name for a case’s exterior made of 16 individual tempered glass panes. Love this case and it really adds a whole unique factor. When off the case is effectively a giant mirror, but once on and the internal lighting turns on, it becomes fully transparent which is an awesome sight to see.

While in my opinion it looks lovely in the aesthetics department, it does so at the cost of functionality. The case has a fairly large footprint, but the main work space is quiet small. It made the build somewhat challenging to do as getting the cables for all that squeezed in plus a custom loop was extremely difficult.

In all love the case but it does have an ongoing expense in keeping it clean. Jeeze does it get dusty easily. Invest in a window cleaner for the thing :D

Other

PSU - HX1200i upgraded from the HX1000i. I needed a 22cm PSU to fit in the tight space which ruled out higher watt units. It came down to the EVGA line and Corsair line. The HX1200i has a better and quieter fluid dynamic fan and quieter profile thanks to raised grill rather than stamped grill on the EVGA so was chosen. Issue was it only has 6 PCI-E / CPU cable slots. I like however clean running PSU cables rather than daisy chain look, so hand made these ones. the GPU cables split 5 CM after leaving the PSU into a 6 and 8 pin cable with 1 going to each Titan X. As its single volt rail, works fine. Sleeved cables are Carbon Telios cables

Watercooling - D5 pump, Bitspower fittings mostly with Alphacool compression fittings and Brass plated chrome tubing all in a black chrome / black silver finish. I think it fits the build perfect using metal tubing for this. I did revise my tubing runs from Aurora now just using simple and straight clean runs, which look neat. As the loop is simple Mayhems Aurora - silver is used.

Lighting - as before I am using the Aquacomputer lighting kits which connects the lighting system to the custom loop with fittings to automatically read and adjust lighting based on temperature. For the overhaul, a couple of new strips have been placed adding a stronger illumination.

Storage - currently the mix seems abit odd. The two MX 100’s were some of the initial components in Aurora as at the time. In that time 2 more 850 EVO’s have been added to the mix. I plan to throw in some M.2 based drives once the 1TB’s are out as the 500GB models are not worth the hassle of moving windows. The current amount of Storage at 2TB while not loads is going to be backed up by a NAS shared by this and white fusion.

Summary

Overall quite happy with the build. It's ticked all the boxes, except for power efficiency hah. I expect most the components to last a while, partly thanks to getting quite lucky with the performance of the 5960x it will be a while before it will need to be replace.

For GPU’s on the fence, but at this stage I will likely take a look at the Pascal replacement and see if I like. Though to be honest at this stage it would be a waste as I am expecting to keep this monitor for a while.

So next upgrade will likely be around Volta and Skylake-E. We shall see if I am still alive by the time the GF figures out the total cost to date :O

As always thanks for reading, if you did manage it all heh, any comments or questions as always welcomed.

Lol, this looks like a parts list I would make to have the most expensive build possible without actually building it. But you actually could afford it, and I respect that. +1 Also, it looks absolutely gorgeous. ._.

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 21 months ago

Just don't tell the GF, she does now know the full price, else I would not be around to use it :O

Thanks buddy

Squishbean1 2 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

Your secret's safe with me.

YyvoN 3 points 21 months ago

Your processor costs more than my computer . . .

Holy **** Radox, if I knew you had this planned, man I don't know what to say.

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

does * mean or does * mean :)

Only joking, cheers bud.

Its meant to be 4 stars, but its formatting the text as bold and italics, opps

Mischief-Minion 1 Build 2 points 21 months ago

Bloody hell this is absolutely insane! +1 tho :D

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 21 months ago

Thanks buddy.

Cobyfield 2 points 21 months ago

Very nice build! +1

That case is quite unique, I've never seen/heard of it! :)

Cobyfield 1 point 21 months ago

Picture 4... ******* amazing... and the ROG.

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

Cheers buddy. Yeah its one of In Win's signiture cases. They only made 200 ever I believe so was hard to get a hold of.

Thanks for the comment!

zdrvr 2 points 21 months ago

amazing build!

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

Thanks buddy :D

Cobyfield 2 points 21 months ago

How do you find that mouse?

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

Yeah the mouse is really nice. Got medium sized hands and use palm grip and its perfect. Batteries are going for a month now, so all good.

johngerges582 2 points 21 months ago

Top notch, as expected.

Fantastic work. +1

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

Thanks kind sir :)

Iceman320 1 Build 2 points 21 months ago

Daymmmm!!! this thing is a fricken monster!!

so clean. so powerful. so perfect.

Overkill?? hell naww there is no such thing!

+1

Also what sort of frame rates are you getting on Witcher 3 with the wide panel and on what settings etc?

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 21 months ago

Thanks kind sir.

Everything maxed out including hairworks and what not is normally is around the 100 fps mark which is the monitors refresh limit. Seen it drop into 80's at time but G-Sync sorts it out so would not notice unless I had the fps counter on.

Iceman320 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

Mmmmmm sweet!

Oh how I wish I had this rig :o

ShrekAndSanic 2 points 21 months ago

Dang... I wish I rich enough to have all of this...

Cobyfield 0 points 21 months ago

Buy a $1500 car instead of a $16k one, for example.

ShrekAndSanic 1 point 21 months ago

Okay..

Pyromaniac579 2 points 21 months ago

this is a weird question but can you remove the Gsync sticker on the monitor without leaving stains? +1 for PG348Q

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

Admittedly not sure yet, totally forgot the sticker was on there. I imagine it would come off fairly easy maby some warm water to help.

SebMonster1030 2 points 21 months ago

Well don't hesitate to look into pascal, i'll take your current cards off your hands when you do! :)

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

Hah, gonna try and restrain myself for once! :)

Growliff1234 2 points 21 months ago

What'd you do with the other monitor ? :O

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

Hi bud, sold it to make way for this one. Both were similar, but this one has G-Sync and a 100 Hz refresh rate vs the 60 Hz the other one had. Had no desk space for both :O

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

Lool I know right. Was gonna see if I could have kept the one I sold for a few days longer. Would have been cool to set them up side be side

soupes 2 points 21 months ago

Great build! How did you get that case?

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 21 months ago

Brought it is simple answer. But they are very hard to get hold of. One of In Win's limited edition cases and only 200 ever made.

I think you may be able to find some now and then, normally they sell for about $1000 roughly.

Aminican 2 points 21 months ago

Absolutely amazing.

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

Cheers buddy :)

Iqwan 1 Build 2 points 21 months ago

Sweet jesus. Scuse' me while I clean the drool off my keyboard.

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 21 months ago

Lool glad you liked it bud.

brodosaur 1 Build 2 points 21 months ago

What are you doing with White Fusion, now that you seem to have improved some performance from that beauty.

EDIT: My god, that's an impressive Fire Strike score. I didn't even know benchmark numbers went that high.

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

Hi there. White fusion still has the same role as before. Its essentially in the living room connected to the big screen. Mainly will used as a htpc but also fills the role of console replacement. But for games like fallout 4 or what not which work on pad you can kick back and play on the big screen.

rhali8 2 Builds 2 points 21 months ago

Why this is one of my favorite builds and the builder too. :)
I love your build, speechless yet I appreciate your work of art, Radox. Sorry to hear you lost your original account... but I'm glad you are still with us! I wish I could give you a lot of votes but only allowed to give you one. Your build is priceless with its glamorous beauty.
Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 3 points 21 months ago

As always great to hear from one of the best loggers on the forum with some seriously detailed and sweet build logs!

Thanks for your kind words!

Build's power and looks are insane, awesome to see it done. almost goes without saying but we gotta say it anyways.+1

Although the one main thing I wanted to write out a compliment for was that, dang dude, those are some super nice photographs, no kidding, very pro. Worth many up votes just for that, each one of the part manufacturers should ask you if they can use your pics in their ads.

It makes me examine myself and think: * the expense of these parts allows me excuse myself for not being able to follow this example in that arena... but, man, I really gotta take better build photos.... *

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

Hi buddy. Thanks for the kind words and glad you liked the pics, always great to hear something slightly different in the comments!

Heh, would be awsome that. In win will be posting it on thier newsletter which will be awsome. Happy when they asked the could so that was pretty cool.

philphaser 12 Builds 2 points 21 months ago

daydreaming

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 21 months ago

I shall take that as a good thing :D

Thanks kind sir :)

philphaser 12 Builds 2 points 20 months ago

Well, it is a good thing!
What about the photos? How, what, why?

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 20 months ago

Ah sorry buddy! did not see your prior message! just saw it now replying to this.

The Camera is actually just a basic one from my time at university :) The Nikon coolpix L330.

Settings wise its all actually auto! Only thing I changed on it was the Macro mode for some of the closer pictures. So in terms of details I am not actually sure on the specific settings sadly.

philphaser 12 Builds 2 points 20 months ago

Crazy! Those photos look so good!

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 20 months ago

Thanks Bud :)

philphaser 12 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

What camera equip did you use and at what settings? Those no-light-source-pics are damn crispy!

muckyduck_ 1 Build 2 points 21 months ago

Thought inwin tou was a legend, couldn't find it on the market anywhere when I first heard about it. This is a true dream build, congrats!!!!

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

Thanks buddy. Yeah lol the case was really hard to obtain hah.

vroom34 1 Build 2 points 20 months ago

Monster of a build. Nice and tidy too. You've inspired me to add some desk lighting!

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 20 months ago

Thanks kind sir, appreciate the kind words. Alas hope the parts last a while, but I am sure you know how it it, once the upgrade bug hits :/

vroom34 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

I'm waiting for that monitor to hit Canada. Oh and then Pascal. Yup, such is the life of the PC Master Race lol. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 20 months ago

Too true. Alas said to myself I will be happy with these Titan's but the itch is already there for the next gen GPU's.

Ah great stuff, the panel is pretty amazing in person. Used the LG 34UC97-S for a year prior so this ASUS is more of the same good stuff + 100hz and Gsync. Really transforms games. Am sure you will love it.

vagabond139 5 Builds 2 points 20 months ago

Damn, damn, and damn. What a impressive machine. That is a insane overclock on that cpu.

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 20 months ago

Thanks buddy :)

Yeah was really thrilled with the CPU overclock. Was a wtf moment when it just kept going and going. Obviously not used daily and limited to 4.6 ghz, but was a nice figure to reach none the less.

jwendl 1 Build 2 points 20 months ago

+1 awesome build right here.

How long did it take for all the custom WC? Have any videos of how it was built?

For the SSDs are you using RAID 0? 2 500's for the OS drive? 2 512's for the Data / Games? Just curious how it is all configured.

Have you noticed any differences going with PG348Q to get GSync? I was looking at this monitor myself.

Excellent photography as well! The aesthetics are amazing.

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 20 months ago

Thanks buddy.

No I did not take any videos sadly. In all took couple of days to do. As its all the tubing is metal it costs a lot compared to normal tubing so had to work very carefully. Then leak test and so on.

No raid at the moment. Waiting for the large 1TB M.2 ssds to be released so I can then finalise my setup.

Yeah it's an amazing moniter. I used to have just a normal 60hz 3440 x 2440 panel. But the 100hz and gsync makes everything feel more fluid and buttery smooth. It's great. With two Titan x's you will have no issues powering it either,

FNorberto 2 points 20 months ago

Wow, amazing rig.

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 20 months ago

angeloabary 2 points 19 months ago

the mark went bonkers on this build!! maybe they will make this the benchmark next time haha

this is glorious!!

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

Hah, thanks bud. Just dont tell the GF how much it costs, she would not be happy hah.

Express. 2 points 18 months ago

Damn it, I just busted all over my screen. Very sexy PC build, how long did it take you to save up for everything?

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 18 months ago

Hah. Cheers buddy. Was done over few months. More to do with waiting for parts rather then cost.

TDBN 1 Build 2 points 17 months ago

So how does 3 Titans compare to 2 1080? Any issues? Was it what you expected? And any plans on upgrading to new broadwell-e cpu?

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 17 months ago

3 Titan'X overall provided more raw performance then the 2 1080's. But on the other hand there is less Microstutter which is a plus. In terms of performance, the 2 1080's are coming in roughly inbetween 2 Titan X's and 3 Titan X's for performance. So not a massive jump but still a nice to have bump up.

They are good cards, but do not quiet live up to the hype most reviewers seemed to indicate, still very solid cards.

No Broadwell-E for me. Sadly they do not look to perform as well as I would hope. I got lucky and got a good 5960x chip which OC's very well. Add in the fact they took away the extra pins on Broadwell-E which means OC sockets on high end boards are useless and in turn cache can't go as high means less performance there also which is a shame.

I think next jump will be on the next X?? platform now.

TDBN 1 Build 2 points 17 months ago

Interesting, was expecting a massive jump because of 16nm and new architecture. Did you get a chance to OC? Will you plan to upgrade to next Pascal cards or maybe even Vega?

Still new to the whole broadwell-e thing and thought it was going to perform a little better than haswell-e.

Anyway thx for the reply and hope to see another build from you.

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 17 months ago

Indeed. Have them running as we speak on my main screen at 2.1 Ghz playing witcher 3 :)

Way I have to come to realise to think of them is maxwell cards on crack. Basically same underlying architecture but running a lot faster. In this case the 1080 wins thanks to its absolute raw speed. I done 15 Benchmarks between a stock Titan X, OC Titan X, Stock 1080 and OC'd 1080. Often the 1080 and OC'd Titan X trade blows and the OC'd 1080 always wins.

I will upgrade to the Pascal Titan cards when they come out as I think a pair will be the first cards that offer the performance I am after, 1080's get close but just fall a bit short. Sadly for better or worse i am tied to Nvidia as my monitor uses G-Sync.

Broadwell-E does perform better at like for like clocks. Thing is Haswell-E chips tend to overclock slightly better so it closes the gap. In all Broadwell-E is slightly better, but the upgrade is not really worth it at the moment.

Thanks for the kind words bud!

TDBN 1 Build 1 point 17 months ago

Lol overclocking to 2.1 Ghz sound so unreal but more power to you mate.

It definitely improvement from maxwell but Nvidia and others kind of hyped it up too much in my opinion making me think it was better than last gen by a large amount.

Think next high end pascal cards will be somewhat interesting and I thought you have a Free-Sync laying around because of White Fusion.

Just saw some benchmarks for the new Broadwell-e cpu and they are a little better but the price is just crazy compare to Haswell-e. Seem like overclocking the 5960x is a far better choice.

OCFEIND 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

Wow amazing! I had dreams of the work station mobo but felt it was to much for my build even though looking back I spent over 5 grand so the difference would of been little but oh well. I see you have a "show off" mixture in the water loop, I'm curious how that might gunk up the ek water block on your cpu with the glitter. I was going to use a similar solution in my build but then strayed away from it because of the builders saying it was only for show and would cause problems if left in the loop for more then a few months. Great pics also +1 all day.

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Hi bud, thanks for the kind words, indeed the E-WS is an awesome board. Can be a bit finicky at times, but works well for my needs and while not a gaming board, OC's the CPU and RAM like a champ which is great.

In regards to the mixture, you are indeed correct, I am using Aurora 2 which has some particles in it that means it recommended more for show systems. To an extent I am getting away with it as my loop is very simple, I tried to design it in mind with the pump being at the lowest point in the system, so if the particles to settle it would be pretty much in the pump. As soon as I turn the system on, the pump push the particles out again and thus far is working okay. Your friend is also correct on the blocking of micro channels. I did crack open the CPU block for inspection after about a year and did notice some of the micro channels were blocked up. For that reason I would not use the Aurora 2 stuff in a more complex loop which includes GPU blocks for example as there would just be too many dead zones and micro channels in general that over a longer period it would just be a pain.

OCFEIND 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Yeah it looks so damn good, it was one of the bigger let down moments of my build when I realized that people only used that liquid for events. I really got into hard line liquid cooling bc of those liquids seeing how much it made a system just go way over the top as far as looks I was willing to drop the extra grand to go from a closed loop all in one set up to the fully customized setup I have now. Still if I could go back I wouldn't change what I did my cpu runs all cores at 4.6 @32 Celsius full load so I'm happy with it. Thx for the info, your pc... wow.

Yeah know what you mean, could get away with AIO's / closed loop, but doing custom loops is pretty great learning experience and fun in itself.

32 Celsius full load :O :O :O Man I am jealous lol. Likewise for daily use run the CPU at 4.6 ghz, but my idle temps alone are 30 degrees up to 35 at times! Under load it gets to 55-60 degrees typically so your temps are epic.

OCFEIND 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Yeah I like triple over killed the cooling on my cpu, lol over kill is the name of the game with water cooling though. I have a 360 koolance in push pull and I think it's like around 60 mils thick too (been over a year now) with the best fans I could buy on every spot in my case. I spent over 500 just on fans after I finished. But yeah I figured 1 360 for my cpu 1 monsta 360 per gpu. Haven't done the gpu's yet waiting for next line up the 1080s don't really benifit much at all on water bc of the voltage limiter, and they just don't oc much more when pushed.

Karniv04 2 points 13 months ago

Love the clean look and well done on the loop! I assume you were trying to be stealthy using the black tubing?

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

Thanks bud. Yep the tubing is black chrome. Was after the monochrome / stealth type look and try something different. Had never worked with a metal type tubing so was interested in how it would turn out.

"2 of the Titan X’s" ok then...

If you have the money or the priorities...

AddisonKwong 1 point 21 months ago

Did you actually use up ALL the thermal paste?!

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

Lol yes and no. Should have been more clear on that. I brought a pair of the Titan x ACX 2.0 coolers for to see how aftermarket vs ref design would work in this case in two way configuration ( 2 space gap) and more generally for noise and cooling, but they kept arriving faulty. Kept having to RMA them so went through a tube and starting on second.

AddisonKwong 1 point 21 months ago

Oh ok thx for the explanation :)

Anarchoprimitiv 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

the additional pcie lanes provided from the plx chips are provided by the 40 lanes that the CPU provides, so technically speaking, it's not the same as 88 straight up pcie lanes in terms of latency, for example

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 20 months ago

Yes and no. You can use all the full 88 pcie lanes if needed. I.e in 7 way gpu solutions was more the point I was looking at it from. Of course yes if we get into the nitty gritty it's not perfect. But only so long I can make a description :)

frostmourne7 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

price of the ROG SWIFT PG348Q?

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 20 months ago

Depends where you live. Only out in few places where it is £1000 in uk, Australia where it is $2000. I expect in the states it will be about $1400 region.

frostmourne7 1 Build 2 points 20 months ago

thank you for the fast response!

i see. really expensive for some. how's the monitor so far?

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 20 months ago

No problem.

Yes it was a bit expensive, I had a previous LG 3440 x 1440 panel from a while back so sold it which provided half the funds for this one.

Monitor is amazing :) Can play everything maxed out thanks to the 3 Titan's at 100hz with everything maxed. 100Hz feels really smooth and for times when fps drops, G-Sync makes everything feel really smooth anyways. I do not notice fps dips unless I now have a fps counter on screen or the game is really badly optimised.

frostmourne7 1 Build 2 points 20 months ago

i'm so jelly.. lol

what games do you play? average fps on maxed out settings?

cheers!

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 2 points 20 months ago

Thanks buddy. Normally everything is maxed out and running at 100 fps which is the moniters refresh rate.

Game wise witcher 3 at the moment. Looks pretty amazing like this

I can see that there is infact some Aurora fluid in the res in certain pictures. Did you replace that soon just for the photos, or decided to keep it in?

I'm interested in the longevity of Mayhems Aurora, but have only heard that it's for showroom PC's and it won't last a long time. So what was your experience?

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

Yeah so aurora is the normal stuff I use. That first picture with the 1080 was after I drained the loop and cleaned out the blocks while I had no gpus in, so took the opportunity to drain and clean. I will put aurora back in soon, but am moving so will will drain the loop again so no point putting aurora in for now.

The fluid lasts in my loop for about 6 months, but after month 4 does lose the vibrancy. As the loop is simple it lasts a decent amount of time. I will say though if your loop is more complex then I would possibly avoid putting too much in. I do agree it was for showroom use and when I pulled my CPU block apart could see the micro channels were clogged up slightly with aurora.

Vinyl_Scratch_ 1 point 17 months ago

Huh alright. Good to know, guess I gotta be looking for other options out there for a silvery type fluid or something along those lines

(Also not too sure the differences on the first and second Aurora, so if you decide to use the 2nd Aurora then I'd love to hear back later to see what your experiences with it are)

Thanks!

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

I am using the version 2 stuff :)

Version 1 of the stuff dissaptes even quicker and the particles are slightly thicker making it worse for normal systems for continuous use, can clog the micro channels easier. Did not even bother trying that stuff.

Vinyl_Scratch_ 1 point 17 months ago

I heard about the issues with the 1st one, which notably a lot of people were complaining about. I couldn't find anything on the 2nd one, well until now obviously

You didn't use the Aurora booster or anything like that? Or did you just buy the fluid and haven't added anything extra into it just to try to not make any of the fluid clog up?

I'm just trying to find out if this Aurora stuff is for me, it's a lot of hassle, which I'm fine with, but I'm worried that the loop I'm planning is FAR too complicated for Aurora and for it to work for a solid 6 months

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

Aurora comes I concentrate or premixed solutions. I have tried both and usually end up clogging the blocks very slightly after they settle. Don't bother with the boosters.

Aurora is very nice stuff however, looks amazing but just need to take into account it's got drawbacks. I do believe mayhems are working on aurora 3 which should be exciting!

Crystalyst1931 1 point 17 months ago

How did the coolant change its colour ?

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

What do you mean sorry? Difference between first pic and the others? If so its not changed, rather I cleaned the loop out when I put the 1080's in so there is no coolent aside from distilled water in the first pic.

Crystalyst1931 1 point 17 months ago

Oh, I see.

StavrosChios 1 point 14 months ago

How does the k95 performs so far? does it worth the money ?

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Yeah it's awsome keyboard. As I use macros well worth it over the k70 because of the extra keys on the end. I think most people would be fine with the K70 however.

GospoGospo 5 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

Have you been able to verify the use of a third card in SLI? The last update I saw (I think it was Jay), the third card doesn't actually do anything unless you're talking about a professional rendering operation.

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

Yeah you can. Use nvidia inspector to create custom sli profiles and just mess around with the AFR settings will get the third card working. Guy on 3D guru initially came up with the fine.

Yeah wasn't not a fan of that video, pointless really as most people know native two way sli does not work with pascal, but by then videos on YouTube be smaller reviewers already show 3/4 pascal cards working. Would have been neat for Jay to do the same.

GospoGospo 5 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

Iiiintereesstinngg... thanks for the reply. Good to hear that there's a workaround. Waiting for CES to see what displays are announced. I'm thinking of just tacking on GPUs until I'm happy with the results after that... just not sure if it'll be Titan or 1080.

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

No probs. Yeah looking forward to next generation of monitors also! My fingers are crossed for a larger 21:9 screen with G-Sync and high refresh rates.... ah one can dream.

Yeah will be interesting to see what happens early next year in regards to the GPU's. Got rid of most of my 1080's for Titan's so hopefully can hold on to them for a while before Volta. That is the architecture I really want to get my hands on!

GospoGospo 5 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

I hear ya. I really want to bite on the 34" 100Hz right now but I know I'll regret not having patience when CES hits. I assume display will be a big topic this year (hopefully).

Varan56 1 point 12 months ago

this bore power PSU is carping it's self when you overclock. The motherboard is just trying to make 3 1080's work together without breaking.

Calberkeley 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

very cool. I upgraded my rig over the weekend. Do you think it'll be faster if I installed the OS on the Intel 750 in the PCIe and the games on the 960 Evo? Or vice versa? I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

Hi there. Nice sounds like a great combo. Performance wise in games the drives do not offer a massive benefit over normal ssds as such anyways. If I was going to however dedicate one to games and one one to OS, I would go the route you mentioned of games on 960 Evo and the OS and key files and what not on the 750. I assume the 960 is larger capacity so a bigger benefit to keep games in one location also

Calberkeley 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

yup, that's how I have it now. Thanks for the feedback!!

andrej4life 1 point 8 months ago

Disappointed. Not enough closeups of GPUs :P

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

Heh. Well they have all gone now anyways. Been replaced by triple GTX 1080Tis.

Camaxide 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Lovely description. just out of curiousity, the part-list says 3x Gtx 1080, but description says Titan's - I assume Titans is the correct one, as 1080's does not work in trio in games? :)

Radox-0 submitter 3 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks. No Initially build had triple Titan X's Maxwell, then 3 x GTX 1080's then 2 x Titan X Pascal. It now has 3 GTX 1080Ti's in it, but I posted a whole new build last night for that coincidentally as it is getting quiet confusing! :https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/b/FCbXsY

Pascal cards can actually work in 3 way SLI and 4 way, you just need to manually tweak the profile in nvidia inspector and use a 3/4 way non-HB bridge. Additionally I use the PC for work related tasks which does not use SLI and the applications can directly access the GPU power, even if I had 7 GPU's in the PC for example.

Case limitation. 360mm radiator support only, so 3 Titan X's and the 5960x under same radiator would have been a no go.
