It took a lot of time and effort to get this from Togepieces to TogePC
The goal of this build was to enable my older brother to edit videos, game, and stream. He's incredibly funny and creative but didn't have the hardware necessary to edit his videos or stream, which I think he will be great at. He is a huge fan of Pokemon, thus the theme of the build.
The limiting factor for this build was definitely money. It had to be a gift, as he is even tighter on money than me, but I'm in college and don't have an abundance of discretionary funds at my disposal. Through a lot of browsing used parts and deals, this is what I was able to come up with. I wouldn't say these are the best of the best in terms of parts, but Alabama does not have an extensive used-PC-parts market. The prices listed in the parts list include shipping and tax. Here's where I got them:
- Ebay - CPU, RAM
- Friends - MOBO, RAM, Case, Optical Drive
- Amazon Warehouse - SSD, HDD
- Facebook Marketplace - GPU, Keyboard, Mouse
- Estate Sales - Monitor
- Owned - Fans, Headset
The most fun part of this build was definitely painting it. I deconstructed the case, painted it white, then painted the accent pieces of it red and blue. I then made stencils using heavy paper and sprayed the Togepi pattern. I ended up having to go back with a paintbrush to correct the overspray, but I'm happy with how it turned out in the end.
Does it look perfect? Nope. Is it the best of the best? Nope. But it has some great character and will hopefully bring him a lot of joy.
