Description

Hello people! (Crappy phone photos incoming! I may retake them)

I present to you, my build! She is not finished yet and she needs a name I only have the water cooling to sort out and get 16gb or 32gb of RAM depending on the prices and how I feel.

This is a build it replace my old build of a 550 TI and q6600 cpu, it was old and dying ;;

I primarily use this build for gaming and video editing, for now, I may look into 3D modelling and folding. Now you may say this is overkill but I could afford it and I wanted it to be overkill so that it would last a few years.

I purchased everything from my local retailer cclonline.com amazing company amazing shop.

The only things I salvaged from my old build was my beautiful Noctua fans and my mushkin radioactive RAM (the RAM is only temporary at the moment though).

Before the build I had my mouse, my cherry mx black mechanical keyboard with custom double shots <3, my mouse pad, my headset and my monitor.

I spent a good 3+ hours on cable management and I can say im happy with the result, it looks clean and much better in person, the images do not really do it justice.

The airflow is amazing and it is really cool inside, I have never actually made it work or sweat at all, an i7 4770k combined with a 7970 is just amazing and I am truly impressed.

The define r4 is a dream to build in, I have built in many cases as I used to refurbish pc's and I must say, none come close to the r4, even the high end ones.

I did not use intel's stock paste, I cleaned it off and put on arctic silver 5 as intels heatsink is temporary until I finally decide which watercooling route I am going to take.

SSD's, man are they amazing, this thing boots in 4 seconds, I went for the fastest SSD available, which happened to be the hyperx 3k, I cant fault it.

The power supply is silent and is a monster, it had to be modular too, another reason I chose this psu is because xfx psu's are made by seasonic which is even more better.

You may notice 2 mobo screws are not in on the photos, this is because either my case or mobo has a weird orientation which knocks off them 2 holes only by about half a centimetre, I am okay with this because all of the other screws keep it secure in place and it is really sturdy, I have made sure.

A few parts were not on pcpartpicker so I had to add them myself.

I will probably take new pictures and upload them but these will do for the time being.

Feel free to comment and post your opinions, tell me what you think! (P.S. She needs a name and I cant think of one ;_;).

Name it Joe.

Seems a bit bland haha, any reason behind this name?

What I am going to do with the names (if I get enough) are stick them in a random picker, so that it picks a name at random and then it will be named that, or just combine all the names into one.

  • 1 point

Because the case is kinda bland? In an elegant way, but still no real flashy lights or personality you know? That's not bad, just a thought as to why he might've said that :P

Joe is one of the best names out there.

It was the first thing that came to mind. Just do it. Write Joe on it. And be done.

Not too many people are fond of the colour scheme, however it is form over functionality for me, I think they look nice anyways to be honest.

If this turns out to be the only name mentioned then so be it.

Well aren't they naughty then!

At least it would be easy to spot them due to their colour scheme.

Why didn't you buy a CPU Cooler like the H100i or Kraken X60 other than that great build. =)

  • 1 point

I am still undecided on the cpu cooler at the moment, hence why I didn't purchase one. Also kraken's are very hard to get hold of in the UK.

Thanks for the positive feedback!

The cable management is absolutely amazing too. I wish I could give +10

Thank you very much!

I tried my best and spent ages doing it.

It was my 1st time doing serious cable management too.

How about " Bio-Hazard. " and put another radioactive logo on the side panels, and maybe a bright yellow light inside too.

Cool name, however the RAM is going as it's only 1333mhz 8gb kit, I am going to change it to 2800mhz 16gb kit or higher haha. I would not really want to put stickers on my r4, its beautiful as it is and I would not be able to see the leds anyways.

  • 1 point

Why would you get 16GB at 2800Mhz?? The cheapest kit I see is like £450 or something for a 4x4GB kit.. It really doesn't seem worth it at that price.

Average price for 16GB at 2400Mhz is like £160.

  • 1 point

Just a thought, like my cooling for my CPU I am still undecided on the RAM too.

I will probably go for 2400mhz 16gb kit.

  • 1 point

can you fit the Noctua double fan cpu cooler in ?

  • 1 point

I should be able to yes, I am still thinking whether to go air cooling or water cooling.

  • 1 point

high quality air coolers are as good as closed loop water coolers. but nothing can match a custom water loop.

I think LN2 wants a word...

i don't think most people go there so i didnt add it but yea liquid nitrogen cooling is crazy

Not all of us have access to LN2 you know.

Although I wish we did.

I don't know if you're an avatar fan (show show not the movie) but if you are, you should go with "Air Bender" Because of those Noctua fans. they look like the nomad's colors and they move air without trying. Haha :P

  • 1 point

Used to be a fan, but now I watch more mature or slapstick stuff.

That is a pretty clever name to be honest, I like it.

  • 1 point

Glad you like it :D

  • 1 point

I would go with air-cooling over a closed loop cooler because you would get better performance and less noise for about the same price. As long as you don't have to move your PC around, you might as well get of Noctua's higher end coolers or a Phanteks cooler.

If you were going to go with water cooling, might as well go all the way and get full blown water cooling.

  • 1 point

I want to try my hand at full blown custom loops, but I don't think it would be right experimenting on a system this expensive, because if I screw up I am not covered. I do know most of how to do stuff when it comes to water cooling, Im just nervous. In my old system I had a closed loop h50.

I love phanteks, but they are huuuuge.

Awesome build!

If you are going for an AIO solution, the h100i, kraken x60 and swiftech h220 are great choices.

Although I personally recommend something like a Noctua NH D14/ NH U14S. They actually keep up with coolers like the h100i but the cost much less.

Also, the word Silence or Silent should be a part of your name since you have pretty much all silence optimized parts.

  • 1 point

NZXT and swiftech are very hard to get hold of in the UK.

I have been looking at that noctua heatsink for a while, its amazing performance for the money, however I have got my eyes on antec's new H20 1250, I love the look of that.

Its not only silence I like, I also love the build quality and the look of the noctua fans and their 5 year warranty too!

  • 1 point

I have the U14S, and when its equipped with two fans it looks amazing imo

  • 1 point

A lot of coolers do look awesome once they have 2 matching fans on!

  • 1 point

Since you refer to it as a "her", name it Princess Consuela Banana Hammock!

  • 1 point

Inventive name its pretty random huh?

I generally refer to all sexy tech or rigs as her because I always have done, I don't know why....

  • 1 point

hows that case? Thinking about getting it vs phantom 410

  • 1 point

The case is absolutely amazing, a dream to build in.

There is tons of room for cable management, I can nearly fit my whole hand behind the motherboard tray it is that big, I would seriously recommend it.

I couldn't comment on any NZXT products as they are very hard to come by in the UK and I have never used any.

I had a few for my build, but they are all weapons (mostly from LOTR):

  • Falchion
  • Claudimordrax
  • Narsil
  • Anglachel
  • Andúril

Then there are more generic names:

  • Black
  • Slick
  • Stealth
  • Sleek

Or, you can just stick a bunch of Japanese characters together and call it a name! :D

  • kariko
  • rinan
  • pokina
  • saruki
  • etc.

Your names are really inventive, I like them a lot.

I especially like Japanese names as I watch lots of anime and I am interested in Japanese culture.

You seem like a nice person.

R4-D4 or R4-D2 or Shallow Pocket Beast

R4-D4/2 I like it, always been fond of Star Wars references.

Shallow pocket beast? Sounds cool but I don't get it.

  • 1 point

Shallow Pocket because you didn't spend a crap ton and Beast cause it sort of is one :P

  • 1 point

I spent about £1000, that is quite a lot??

  • 1 point

Well yeah, but not compared to a lot of other builds. It is built very well for the money, something which too many people can't do.

  • 1 point

Computers are my passion, I studied them in college, I work with the everyday for a living and I did a lot of research, I just want a good system for good money, I think I have achieved that well.

  • 1 point

Nice build!

You may want to keep watch over the usefulness of those fans in the next couple months, though. Unless you've created a vacuum in your case, you may find quite a bit of dust in there. Once you switch to water cooling the fans might just be superfluous.
