Description

Here I was, just having finished high school and with a lot of saved up money and time, thinking that my 5 year old MacBook Pro ( worst purchase of my life) wasnt enough anymore.

In my freetime I love to watch youtube videos and it just so happend that I came across various videos regarding the upcoming Star Citizen game. I was so fascinate by the scale and graphical fidelity and at that moment decided to get a computer that can run the Beta asap! I started watching tons of videos on how to build computers, different parts, performance, upcoming tech and so on, checked PCPP and Reddit every houer, started making Partlists, checking out retailers for sales and avaiability; it really fast became and addiction.

Fast forward 3 months and I have not only build my dream PC but renovated my entire room to create a cool setup. I went with a very simple and clean look that doesnt look too "gamerish".

Initially I wanted to go with a 1440p monitor and something like a 980 Ti, but I quickly fell in love with ultrawide monitors and ended up buying the Dell U3415W. Now that I had a monitor with such an insane pixelcount I also had to up my GPU game and, in the end, went all out with the GTX 1080. I guess I can say that im not good at sticking to my budget but hey, I think the result is more then worth it!

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

Looks really nice and is extremly quiet. The only problem is that the installation is annoying, but if you have someone to help its no problem.

Motherboard

Really sturdy and simple MOBO. Perfect for an all black build!

Storage

Feels like heaven after using Harddrives until now. Can only recommend!

Video Card

What a beast of a card! Runs very quiet and looks amazing. I managed to OC it to 2088 with peaks up to 2114.

Monitor

"Cheapest" of the 34' 1440p monitors with a curve. Not only a dream to play on (if your hardware can drive it) but also great for media consumption and productivity!

Not bad, not bad at all.

How are you liking the ultra-wide? Im considering ditching the dual monitor setup in exchange for a UW.

It's absolutly fantastic! Games are way more immersive, borderless movies are a pleasure and the extra real estate is nice to work with. I never had 2 monitors so I cant diretly compare the two setups, but I guess not having the bezels in the middle is a big plus. To sum it up, the only really disadvantage of UW is that you can never go back to 16:9 ^

Is the top fan an exhaust? I really like nzxt cases but I haven't considered one bc of the lack of airflow but you're temps under load are good. Nice build!

Yeah top and rear (the ones that come with the case) are exhausts, but I did add 2 front fans. Keeps everything very cool and the fans at low rpm's!

Awesome. I can't tell you how many hours I've been researching on what case to get. Does it have enough airflow or this case has enough airflow but it's to big. I've been stuck between the corsair 540 and the Phanteks pro m so seeing these temps in the nzxt case makes me happy lol

Haha, I see where you are coming from. Had the same struggle with every single part of my build. But in the end you just gotta make a decision and if you did your research you will be fine!

Really nice build and a bit familiar to mine ;)

I have the same MoBo, Cooler and RAM Sticks. Do you like the parts or wanted other parts?

I really like black builds with some accents, like the leds from the 1080 - damn pretty!! -

Could you provide the clearance of your CPU cooler? And did you have to raise it at all to fit the RAM?
