Description

Built this computer for my brother's 15th birthday. He had been playing on Xbox and a 2013 Mac Mini, so this is quite the upgrade. He mostly uses it for playing Minecraft, Overwatch, and a little Fortnite even though it's a dead game.

The build process took longer than it should have, just because this case is tiny and therefore hard to build in, but I had no problems. Everything works great for what he needs it to do. The only overclock currently on it is XMP since he doesn't know how to overclock or need it. It's been a great pc for him so far and he loves it.

You are a great brother for building him this PC. I recently built a PC with the In Win A1 case and can confirm that my wallet told me it was not cheap. Nice 1080p gaming build here your brother will get years out of it.

How much fps does he get on minecraft? Plus your very nice for building him it!

Well right now he plays with shaders so he gets around 60-70. But with shaders off it's in the 200s or higher.

how does he play with shaders

Simple you download forge. Then you download optifine and put it in your mods folder. Then play the game, and open up shaders, and paste the shader you wants folder in there.

good job man on the aesthetics you really managed to get it to a very good level. I was thinking about building a 9100F machine and I wanted to know how bad is it gonna bottleneck the 1660ti. I will really appreciate it if you can give me an idea.

Thanks man! He's really only been playing Overwatch and Minecraft on it so far (stock setting, no overclock) and it hasn't been a bottleneck for either. IMO the 9100F is a really good budget gaming processor out of the box. His is staying at a 4+ GHz boost while playing.

Why didn't you just go with a nice ryzen 3 1200 matx build with 8gb viper blackout and a 750gb hard drive with an RX 570 or a gtx 1050ti

Also personally I would stick with slower ram when it comes to intel cuz high-speed ram with intel can overheat everything

The reason I didn't go with that is because what I went with is faster. The 9100F is far superior to the 1200 when it comes to gaming, likewise, a 1660Ti destroys a 1050Ti or RX 570. I went with 16GB of RAM simply for future-proofing. Your claim that high-speed RAM is bad for Intel has no basis in fact. The processor has adequate cooling and the faster RAM improves FPS by a few.

why don't you just get 2666 and overclock to 3000

also at that price point get a ryzen 5 1600

Buying 3200 MHz RAM is not a whole lot more expensive than 2666 today. And a Ryzen 5 1600 would have made no sense for this build. I built this for my brother to game on and the 9100F is just flat out better than the 1600 for gaming. It was also cheaper and just a smart purchase for this use case.

I strongly disagree

With what? How would an R5 1600 have been a better choice?

Hey! Nice build; epic of you to build one for your brother. Quick question;

I am building a PC for my friend as a surprise for Christmas, with his parent's help. I am at a low budget but am most definitely going to use the i3-9100F... and as of now, no graphics card with it.

How well could the i3-9100 run games alone? I can't find much on youtube regarding it. You might have an idea.

Thanks!

Hey! Thanks man! He's loving it :)

As to your question, the 9100F actually had no iGPU so it would be unable to run games. The 9100 non F does have Intel UHD Graphics 630 which I would not recommend for ANY triple-a titles such as Overwatch or Battlefield. It is able to run some old games and less graphically demanding ones but even a really cheap discrete GPU would be tenfold better.

Got it! I just purchased Sapphire RX 570's (making 2 PCs) to run games with it. Thanks for the intel. (pun not intended) :)

I'm asking a random question . Why are you paying so much for the mobo .I've seen high end builds with cheaper motherboards and they generally run without any problem ,utilizing the power of all components.

Amazon has the current price at $650 which is absurd. I got it for $150 from Newegg.

I love the looks, speaking of which, how is the experience with the monitor using an nvidia gpu? I want to get that same monitor but g-sync working well with it is a must for me, if it does then honestly that would be the perfect monitor for me.

Thank you! The experience with the monitor is great. Even though it's a free sync panel g-sync works perfectly fine and I've not seen any screen tearing.

How did the inWin fans work for you? Setting up a build for my friend and they seem like a great value. Thanks!

The Polaris fans have been working great so far! Can't complain.
