9/25/15 I build this machine about a year ago in May of 2014, but did not care really to update this. Now that I am using this site more and not just for myself I decided it was time to do so.

This was the first computer I ever build together which was inspired by watching YouTube videos of people building computers and wanting to try it myself. I build this machine partially because I was about to start school for my bachelors in Computer Science and I wanted to play video games on a much higher quality.

Since this is a late update some of the parts in this build has changed mainly the motherboard. I had an issue with the MSI Z87-G45 Gaming motherboard with the back audio jack crapping out on me. 2 calls later after waiting on a call back for I couldn't just send them my board so I was trying to get a board first then send them the old one and I pulled the trigger and bought the board i'm currently using on a sale. I switched them out called MSI and got a new one and shoved it in my closet. The other is just the inclusions are a blu ray player, the orange fan led for the back, and the LED strips which is attached to the bottom and the windowed door.

Disclosure that I bought all my items on sale through the months so that did influence some of my purchasing decisions.

In terms of building it everything went well. I was surprised about how much easier it was then I feared. I even wrote instructions to myself which seems silly now after having done my third build. It runs SO fast compared to my laptop and family computer and plays game like a dream for me. I did cut back on some parts just because I was on a tight budget, but I couldn't be happier with it.

12/6/15 updated it with reviews to specific parts and new photos and added orange heatsink ram sticks from G.Skill.

Part Reviews

I got a good deal on this CPU and was what I was looking for. Something Mid range for a Mid price. I know I could have done better, but I didn't want to get into the overclocking scene on my first build and I've read great reviews about this CPU. The Cooler was a later edition when I switched out the motherboards and took a little getting used to the mounting plate, but running great so far!

I really didn't know what I was looking in for a board except for the potential for added parts later on and the correct socket. I also loved the yellow/light orange color on it and go really nice with the orange theme I have going (it's my favorite color).

I did originally have Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 2 X 8GB sticks, but these matched the color of my build and they kind of look gold-ish in the light. So far they've been great except I can't remove a white sticker on them for it voids the warranty which is dumb. Why not just have it on a piece of paper instead of ruining the look of the casing? I'll just remove it later.

This thing is a beast and have been loving have my OS boot in 30 seconds. While the price of this has gone up in price I got it at a significant discount and run a few games off it, but mainly the OS and programs I use on a day to day basis.

While most of my most played games run on the SSD this HDD is still great for playing games as well as just pure storage of all my videos, music, and other files. Easy to install and easy to use I can't recommend Seagate enough.

I love the color of this case and not many orange cases are made. This case was very user friendly for my first time building and has plenty of upgrade ability. The led fans in front look awesome and provides plenty of airflow for cooling. My only knock against this case is even though its big I can't support a 240mm radiator up top unless you mount it on top of the case according to pcpartpicker. I've seen some people do it, but its a tight fit.

Power Supply

Going semi modular was the best option for me so I didnt want to do custom sleeving on a full modular power supply and this guy provides enough power though I know I'll get **** for its only bronze certified. Easy to use and install and also very quiet.

-So much room for a bigger card, you should've spent the extra $20-$30 and gotten a GTX 950 -This may be stupid since you have one, but did you really need a Blu-Ray Reader, that money would've been nice in order to upgrade the GPU -I think you could've saved much more and for the same price gotten a build that consists of GTX 970, i5-4690K, and a 120GB SSD (what I have) only downgrade is that I had 8GB of Corsair Vengeance and a 1TB Hard drive -Gaming wise you really don't need 16GB of RAM (Some games have it recommended to have 8GB but it always almost the same without all the RAM being used

Now the exterior/interior ascetics -Love the orange build and those leds and case fans really make the case come alive -There is so much empty space in the case and makes me feel weird but hey whatever you love, it's all up to you -Could do a little better with cable management

Now don't take these things to heart and think that I am saying your build sucks. ABSOLUTELY NOT! This build looks very nice and must run very nice. I just think with a little more management of money you could've upgraded the CPU and GPU. Now this is all a different story if you needed all that storage and the Blu-Ray Drive

Overall +1 Very nice build, nice looks, nice parts.

I should have, but a got a really good deal on the CPU, 750ti and the 3TB, but I plan to upgrade to a better card when theirs a game that demands it. I do use my blu-ray player for my anime collection and I bought it later only have had it for 1 month or so. The storage is mainly so I can have all the games downloaded as well as back ups of my movies and anime.

I knew the RAM is overkill, but I did that so I wouldn't have to upgrade it for a very long time and I'm currently programming for school and multi tasking a ton. The CPU I didn't mind the small downgrade because its been better than ANYTHING I've had in my lifetime

I appreciate the feedback though and I'm glad you like it! :)

Ahhhhhhhh Blue-Ray anime...very satisfying but that is way too expensive especially when I bench-watch all my anime in 3 days and watch a lot, otherwise you did need that blu-ray player I just use this quality is really good also

Ok, I understand now good luck on your upgrades

Looks nice! If you don;t want that MSI board, I'd take it off your hands!

MattOfDoom submitter 2 Builds 1 point 34 months ago

Sure! we can talk about it! Its a brand new board (maybe refurbished?) but its been tested and works just fine. Comes with the board, I/O shield, manual, and a few cables (can't remember its been sitting there for a while)

PM me what you would be willing to let it go for.

Nice case, is it just me or could it pass off as a red? Looks pretty red to me.

It was the angle of the light. I want to take more picture's, but I've needed it more for class and just used my phone for the pics. It definitely is orange though. I'm glad you like it though :)

Hey man how is the Seagate Barracuda HDD working? I was thinking about picking one up but wanted some opinions on them.
