Description

So this build started when I saw an open box FX 6300 at microcenter for $63. Plus $40 off of a open box motherboard. The motherboard was $57 minus $40 plus a $5 rebate. (And a code for hitman and world of warships, but whatever). I know, I know the I3 6100 wins in all the benchmark. But for $75 total for cpu/mobo combo this can't be beat.

When I went to microcenter to pick up a case I had on order a fractal design 2300. However when I got there they were out of the fractal. I quickly looked for another case. They gave me the corsair for the same price of $39.99 plus another $10 rebate. However when I got home I realized that the hyper 212 evo does not fit in the spec-01 so well. You can manage if you put it in parallel to the gpu but it does touch the case slightly.

I got a groupon for a $100 gift card to newegg plus a year premier membership for $90. I used that gift card for the gtx 950 which was 120 after rebate at the time. I also got $5 cash back on the Groupon purchase. So the gpu came to $105.

When I purchased the xfx power supply it was 29.99 after rebate. The newegg website at the time said that the psu had a 5 year warranty. After I got the psu I saw that it was a 3 year warranty. Newegg investigated and did change the info on their product page. They offered to refund my purchase. I told them I would keep it if they took another $15 off. They agreed. So total for the psu was $15 after rebate.

So total for the system after about $100 in rebates is $340. Really not bad for about the same price as a PS4. I really happy with it so far.

Looks kinda bland with the black on black on black, good deals though.

The 6300 is ideal for something like a budget video editing/encoding box. In fact with 6 cores at full utilization it beats the pants off of an i3. unfortunately most programs don't do that well with threading.

Actually from what I have seen from dx12 benchmarks the 6300 does better than i3's but unfortunately not many games have it.

Great budget gamer. +1

You description mentions a gtx 960, but your parts are a 950. Which is it?

I found a micro center 25 minutes from my house. I would love to do some bargain hunting there and build a budget gaming rig like this. Awesome job!

This feels like one of those TV shows where they spend like 99 cents on groceries because they have 100 coupons +1

+1 for good deals. I bought that XFX PSU as well about a month ago. I should have asked for the same discount, bummer. I love budget builds (good ones) and good deals.
