This is a PC for my mom. It'll be used for office work. The reason I built this was because my mother was jealous of my PC, a mid-tier gaming PC with a Corsair 570x case and flashy lights. I've already built my dad and older brother PC's so it was about time for her as well. She wanted a no-compromise PC within a $500ish budget. I just got done with it after finding good deals on most of the parts because of Black Friday, and she really enjoys it and thinks it looks nice, and it will perform well too.
This is the brains of the build. I could have skimped and gotten her a 2200G but I got this on a bundle deal and she told me she wants something that will last her upwards of 5-8 years so I splurged on the hyper-threading this offers.
This is a lackluster motherboard with not much I/O but for my needs it is perfect. Cheap, no frills, M.2, and is black.
Given the RAM prices lately, I'm glad this kit is only $99 right now. I wanted to give her more RAM than she really needs for future-proofing, and it was on a better sale than the 8GB kits at the time of purchase.
Performance close to the 860 EVO and was cheaper too. Will be plenty of fast storage for my mom.
No flashy lights, business black, but still allows a peak inside the PC which she wanted. You can tell the case is very budget, but it has a powder coated interior and more room than some other budget options to work with. In all it was the perfect fit.
Had this laying around from when these were $19.99 when they came out. All black cables for $20? Nice.
She wanted a CD-Drive. Found this on a Newegg flash sale. Boom.
I actually got a free windows key from my school for Windows 10 Education, so I used that.
Wireless Network Adapter
Looks great, and has great performance. I didn't want to skimp on wifi and get her a 2.4Ghz N model. This will help give her good up/download speeds.
