It was sold as an "HP spare," but take off the packaging, and you end up with Samsung MZ7PD256HCGM. I understand it uses different firmware than a real 840 EVO, but I haven't tested performance yet.

It was sold as an "HP spare," but take off the packaging, and you end up with Samsung MZ7PD256HCGM. It does not have Samsung firmware, Crystalmark says it's much slower than a real 840 from Samsung. Not a smart place to save a few bucks. Still faster than mechanical though.

from completed build Desert Thunder

Greased lighting fast and comes with a 5 year warranty. Enough said.

from completed build New desktop with some old parts

Supafast... Bought back in 2013 which is why the high price. Since then I've only written 1.1TB lol at this rate it will last even after I die.

from completed build Team Red

This was the closest I could find to the part I got, an HP Spare. I think they're replacement drives for HP laptops, but if you take off the mounting hardware, you end up with a Samsung MZ7PD256HCGM, Samsung parts but no Samsung controller software. I saved a few bucks but the performance isn't what you'd expect from a "real" EVO or PRO SSD from Samsung.
