Description

I had this old computer laying around so I decided to give the case a new life. This build was mainly an excuse to mod the case.

The part will be use in a living room computer, so music, movies, gaming, something like steamOS, xmbc, openelec ( Right now there steamOs on it). I might switch the case to an m-atx like the zalman T1 to get a less visible computer in the living room.

In the future I'll had a HDD or ssd. For now, it has an laptop hdd. And as you can see in the picture, I got a hole in the case for fans, but there's no grills. So plan is to make some or buy filters/grills. And also put some feets under it.

I know my case is not as nice and functional as the 230T in the component list but I still enjoyed the modding.

Edit: Forgot to add the Nzxt Hue in part since... it's not on the site. It can make a nice light show.

Can't believe that that old mobo had a purple PCB LOL.

rost123 1 Build 5 points 10 months ago

+1 for floppy disk! Btw you need some rubber stands for that... I guess you already know since the dual 120 holes. Nice build.

Meyin submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Yes I'm actually looking for some rubber stands. I might need to make mine like in this post;

http://www.overclock.net/t/507440/small-mod-rubber-legs-for-computer-case

I just can't find rubber feet to do them. I'm just order some from internet too.

This is a wonderful mod -- breathes new life into an otherwise stereotypical 90's store-bought computer. It's amazing what a little creativity and some spray paint can do! :D

8BitPhoenix 4 Builds 2 points 10 months ago

Actually my favorite build here ever, I love these epic case mods. Really good job on this one too!

Vortexxian 2 Builds 2 points 10 months ago

Oh heck yes. I love it! Taking an ugly ol' hunk of junk and turning it into a one-of-a-kind eye-catcher is the best thing ever. Nice work!

EDIT: Also, nice touch with the black paint on the formerly-bare metal. It's the details that count.

ImPrettyIrish 2 points 10 months ago

Wow! This definitely deserves a +1. Well done!

iCalvus 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

I'm doing something similar to an old HP Compaq case. Good job!

Meyin submitter 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

Can't wait to see it. Do you have a color theme?

iCalvus 1 Build 2 points 9 months ago

White with black interior. Boring I know but it is only a stop gap until I can decide which case I want to buy.

dcmabry 1 Build 2 points 9 months ago

cbrown67 1 point 10 months ago

Love mods! I have so much fun doing them ;P

core_dump 1 point 10 months ago

Wow, very nice! What did you use to paint the interior, black spray paint? It looks so clean!

Meyin submitter 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

Yes, black matt spray paint. But with a primer layer first to be sure the paint would stay. Did that on a sunny day in some cartons boxes.

core_dump 2 points 10 months ago

Awesome, it looks so good, I may try it too! Thanks for the tip!

Nice. You could order a Card reader or something to fill in the gap up front.

Meyin submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

I looking for a usb3/ 2.5' drive holder.

Maybe like this one http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX49046

Or as you suggest, a card reader

DoHbOyBlAzEd 14 Builds 2 points 10 months ago

USB 3.0 all the way.

Love the sleeper mod, though I wouldn't have added the window or painted the exterior case. But that might just be because my paint jobs always look like crap. I plan on doing something similar to an old Gateway tower when I have money for some new parts. You have any case fans hidden in there, or are you just waiting until you get those grills for a bottom intake?

Would you mind answering a few questions about that chip for me? Does Kaveri live up to the hype? What kind of temperatures are you getting with the stock heat sink? What is the ambient temperature in the room this PC is in?

Meyin submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

I got fan waiting for the case feet to be installed.

Otherwise, I couldn't say for the Kaveri since, I'm away for few months and didn't test it a lot. I installed steam Os and did some home-streaming and everything went well. Same for the games. Temp seem normal ( no number) and it's in a basement with A/C on the first floor.

I'll try to stress the Kaveri asap which might be in november or even later. I tought I would have time to tweak it a bit, but it's not the case :P.

xdthevoidxd 1 point 4 months ago

That looks better than a lot of modern cases! Nice job! By the way, did you have to update the BIOS of the motherboard to make it compatible with the a10-7850k? Just curious.

Meyin submitter 1 Build 1 point 4 months ago

Nope. It was working as soon as it was out of the box :P

xdthevoidxd 1 point 4 months ago

Where did you buy it from?
