This is a PC I inherited a few years ago when my father passed away. I think my dad had it custom built somewhere around 2006-2007. It was my primary PC until I built my own earlier this year; since then, it’s been sitting in the corner of my office.
For sentimental reasons, I couldn’t really bring myself to recycle it so I thought I’d see if I could breathe some new life into it with an upgrade.
I’ll probably use it as a playground for tinkering. I may also convert it to a file server down the road.
The upgrade went well. The PC boots much faster now. Windows 8 is running fine. It is MUCH quieter. I think most of the noise was coming from the PSU before.
All-in-all a fun project.
CPU: upgraded to a 64 bit Pentium 4
RAM: max the motherboard can support
SSD: thought as SSD would help speed things up even though it’s only a SATAI connection
GPU: had this in stock from another project
PSU: just had to replace the original
Case Fan: added some fans to try and create some positive pressure.
