Build Summary

This is a PC I inherited a few years ago when my father passed away. I think my dad had it custom built somewhere around 2006-2007. It was my primary PC until I built my own earlier this year; since then, it’s been sitting in the corner of my office.

For sentimental reasons, I couldn’t really bring myself to recycle it so I thought I’d see if I could breathe some new life into it with an upgrade.

I’ll probably use it as a playground for tinkering. I may also convert it to a file server down the road.

The upgrade went well. The PC boots much faster now. Windows 8 is running fine. It is MUCH quieter. I think most of the noise was coming from the PSU before.

All-in-all a fun project.

Parts summary

CPU: upgraded to a 64 bit Pentium 4

RAM: max the motherboard can support

SSD: thought as SSD would help speed things up even though it’s only a SATAI connection

GPU: had this in stock from another project

PSU: just had to replace the original

Case Fan: added some fans to try and create some positive pressure.

Part List
MSI GeForce GTX 660 2GB Video Card
GPU Core Clock Rate1.03Ghz
GPU Effective Memory Clock Rate6.01Ghz
GPU Temperature While Idle-
GPU Temperature Under Load-

Good idea. I tried adding a before and after image by pasting a couple of the pictures together. Thanks for the kind words.

Thanks. I tried my best. There's no room behind the motherboard.

good cleanup. I still use an hp that is a hot mess inside from the factory. I never even thought about trying to organize it, until I got on here. nicely done. Here's to your dad.

Yeah, I've learned a lot from this site too. It's a great resource.

Nice upgrade. Looks so clean and neat. If cared enough, could last many more years. Congrats!

Nicely Done and a nice tribute to your Dad!

How's that cpu handling the gpu? Or have you not tried anything on it yet?

Thanks for looking. I haven't done much with it yet. I may play around with it some this weekend.
